Blown Busa - Advice on options please

Hi Guys

Sadly my big bore busa lunched itself this weekend at Doune hillclimb.

It's run number 4 big end with crank damage, rod damage and sadly head
damage where some cr@p has scored one of the cam journals.

So the list of parts I need is

Crankshaft
1 conrod
Inlet Cam
Cylnder head
Full gasket set
full set of shells

As I see it I have two choices. Source all the parts and rebuild it or buy a
stock busa motor swap the barrels & pistons over to take it out to 1397cc
again and have a load of spare parts left over fro the old engine (gearbox
clutch etc)

Any thoughts on which option, or any other options available. Also if anyone
has any of the parts lying around that I need? Powertec have cranks on ebay
at the moment which look good.

cheers guys

jr

Hi Jonathan,

Given that Busas still attract a premium price compared to other lump's
probably sensible to rebuild it. You're unlikely to find a decent one for
less than about £2.5k.

I rebuilt mine last year after a big end went. I used SEP
(http://www.sep-kegworth.co.uk) who reconditioned the crank and supplied
new main shells. IIRC I think it cost me about £300.

My engine went on to develop a gearbox problem so I stuck a newer one in
but the plan's to rebuild the old one again.

Probably worth speaking to Powertec and second hand parts, they often have
quite a lot of stick.

HTH,

Bob

Hi Jonathan

Sorry to hear of your troubles – maybe we should set up a club!  Did you get
many runs in before it went pop?

Sadly not, it happened on second practice :(( so first two rounds of my
title defence and no points whereupon my main rival scored two wins ......
that's motor racing.

Phil if your fury will make it through to the west coast I'll gladly have a
look at it for you if you'd like

Thanks Bob, you've confirmed what I thought so sourcing all the bits now.
Could really have done without having to source a cylinder head assembly
though :((

Thanks Jonathan.  No wonder your email sounded down.  Thanks for the offer -
I may take you up depending upon how I get on over the next couple of days.

Cheers
