Blu-Ray burn errors (sorry, maybe posted twice)Hi all,
I'm trying to use a Panasonic SW-5582C and the actual cdrecord release for burning large UDF images (30-40GB). Burning of media fails in 9 of 10 tries, in dummy mode as in real mode too. The abort occurs sometimes quick, sometimes half way through the image file of 33 GB. One burn process has been successfull (using 1x speed) but this was not reproducable. The error seems to be the same everytime (see the appended logs). I'm trying Solaris Sparc and Linux x86, both show similar behaviour (vol management was switched off on Solaris) Sunn uname -r gives SunOS xxx 5.9 Generic_122300-35 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440 Linux was 2.6.18 Debian Has anybody used this drive successfully with cdrecord? I tried Panasonic media and Sony media (manufacturer is Panasonic) which were recommended for this drive by the distributor, I've ordered Verbatim, maybe they perform better. Do you have any suggestions what I am doing wrong? Re: Blu-Ray burn errors (sorry, maybe posted twice)Hi Joerg, thank you for your quick response!
This behaviour is probably not correlated to temp, it occurs on two different SW-5582 drives (one is lying in free air above my PC ...). It seems to be a hardware problem, I've got the drive specific result codes for this drive: (they differ from mmc specifications...) 04/03/01 PERIPHERAL DEVICE WRITE FAULT - TRACKING SERVO FAILURE But I can reproduce this behaviour on two different drives with different Firmware, so I am rather clueless right now. It seems to me that BluRay drives need an activation of the defect management, but I am not sure how to manage this. Dvd+rw-Tools call a format command prior to burning, but the source code seems broken, I doesn't work for BD-R media. So I am poking here and there now, has anybody has successfully used this drive (for large images)? Thanks, Mark > Mark Williams <mark@...> wrote: > > >> Hi all, >> >> I'm trying to use a Panasonic SW-5582C and the actual cdrecord release >> for burning large UDF images (30-40GB). >> Burning of media fails in 9 of 10 tries, in dummy mode as in real mode too. >> >> The abort occurs sometimes quick, sometimes half way through the image >> file of 33 GB. >> One burn process has been successfull (using 1x speed) but this was not >> reproducable. >> The error seems to be the same everytime (see the appended logs). >> >> I'm trying Solaris Sparc and Linux x86, both show similar behaviour (vol >> management was switched off on Solaris) >> >> Sunn uname -r gives SunOS xxx 5.9 Generic_122300-35 sun4u sparc >> SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440 >> Linux was 2.6.18 Debian >> >> Has anybody used this drive successfully with cdrecord? >> I tried Panasonic media and Sony media (manufacturer is Panasonic) which >> were recommended for this drive by the distributor, >> I've ordered Verbatim, maybe they perform better. >> >> Do you have any suggestions what I am doing wrong? >> >> Thanks in advance, >> Mark >> >> >> Appendings: >> >> Log of burn error with -v >> Log of -v -v -minfo for an empty media >> >> >> ==================================================== >> Coaster >> ==================================================== >> >> bash-2.05# ./cdrecord -dev=2,1,0 -v /mnt1/OPAS-Archiv/test/burn.img >> ./cdrecord: No write mode specified. >> ./cdrecord: Asuming -sao mode. >> ./cdrecord: If your drive does not accept -sao, try -tao. >> ./cdrecord: Future versions of cdrecord may have different drive >> dependent defaults. >> Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 2.01.01a57 (sparc-sun-solaris2.9) Copyright >> (C) 1995-2009 Jörg Schilling >> TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM >> scsidev: '2,1,0' >> scsibus: 2 target: 1 lun: 0 >> Warning: Using USCSI interface. >> Warning: Volume management is running, medialess managed drives are >> invisible. >> Using libscg version 'schily-0.9'. >> SCSI buffer size: 64512 >> atapi: 0 >> Device type : Removable CD-ROM >> Version : 2 >> Response Format: 2 >> Capabilities : WBUS16 SYNC >> Vendor_info : 'MATSHITA' >> Identifikation : 'BD-MLT SW-5582 ' >> Revision : 'BZF2' >> Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM. >> Current: BD-R sequential recording >> Profile: BD-R sequential recording (current) >> Profile: BD-R random recording >> Profile: BD-RE >> Profile: BD-ROM >> Profile: DVD-RAM >> Profile: DVD+R/DL >> Profile: DVD+R >> Profile: DVD+RW >> Profile: DVD-RW restricted overwrite >> Profile: DVD-RW sequential recording >> Profile: DVD-R/DL layer jump recording >> Profile: DVD-R/DL sequential recording >> Profile: DVD-R sequential recording >> Profile: DVD-ROM >> Profile: CD-RW >> Profile: CD-R >> Profile: CD-ROM >> Profile: Removable Disk >> Using generic SCSI-3/mmc-3 BD-R driver (mmc_bdr). >> Driver flags : NO-CD BD MMC-3 BURNFREE >> Supported modes: PACKET SAO >> Drive buf size : 6684672 = 6528 KB >> ./cdrecord: Warning: The DMA speed test has been skipped. >> FIFO size : 4194304 = 4096 KB >> Track 01: data 34216 MB >> Total size: 34216 MB = 17518844 sectors >> Current Secsize: 2048 >> Blocks total: 24438784 Blocks current: 24438784 Blocks remaining: 6919940 >> Reducing transfer size from 64512 to 32768 bytes. >> Starting to write CD/DVD/BD at speed 0 in real SAO mode for single session. >> Last chance to quit, starting real write 0 seconds.
