Branching for Evolution 2.28 on Aug 11

Hi,
We have been waiting for a while to get the eds address-book dbus port
merged into master for 2.28. Considering the stability issues we have at
the moment with the branch (http://tinyurl.com/bgo-eds-dbus-hybrid ) and
some work which needs to be done for evolution-exchange to work, we will
be merging into master immediately after the branching for 2.28.

Kill-bonobo branch will also get merged and we will have enough time to
work through them for 3.0. We would also be merging the eds calendar
dbus port.

Most of the work will be going on in master to get the ported pieces
stable after branching. So when 2.29.1 comes out on oct 28 with these
changes, we can assure some stability.

Branching for 2.28 will be done on Aug 11th immediately after the UI
freeze/2.27.90 release. I will send out another mail after branching so
that developers ensure the relevant patches are committed to both 2.28
branch and master.

Thanks, Chenthill.

I would also like to ask the Evolution -and- Anjal developers to be very
conservative about committing to the Evolution and Evolution-Data-Server
'master' branch after we create the 'gnome-2-28' branch.

Every commit to 'master' creates more work for those who are trying to
get their feature branch ready to merge.  At least for me it's becoming
increasingly painful to keep 'kill-bonobo' in sync with 'master' because
the branches have diverged so far.

Please either hold off on commits until 'eds-dbus' and 'kill-bonobo' are
merged, or else commit your patch to the feature branch first, then to
'master', and then to 'gnome-2-28' (if appropriate).  In other words,
commit to the bleeding edge first and then backport.

Thanks,
Matthew Barnes

I wouldn't commit to mail/ any more for anjal (beyond branching ?), till
you merge back. If I want to, I will do to master first, if I have to
and backport.

The dbus-hybrid branch has been merged into master now, this means that
EDS uses ORBit for the calendar and DBus for the addressbook.

There are a number of known bugs but if anyone finds any issues with the
addressbook, please file a bug!

My next goal is to get the calendar port ready for merging.  With any
luck this will be done this week.

Cheers,
Ross
