Brasero won't copy a CDEvening all,
I just tried to copy a music CD using Brasero - something that has never given me any trouble before. However 2 attempts left me with something containing only one track and was unplayable both in my hi-fi and my computer. I therefore decided to try another tack and tried to create a new CD using tracks off of the original. Brasero gave me the message "Track 1.wav could not be handled by GStreamer. Make sure the appropriate codec is installed" Any idea what the appropriate codec might be? I have all the usual GStreamer stuff installed. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 and the Brasero version is 2.26.1. I've converted the CD to MP3s and I'm going to try and burn those but I don't consider this a permanent satisfactory solution. cheers, Graham -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... However, Gnomebaker gives a similar message to Brasero so it's looking like this is a system/codecs issue. I'm surprised that the files on the cd are actually shown as wavs - they never used to be. The good news is that I was able to create 320 kbps mp3s and burn those to a cd using Brasero. Of course, flacs would be better (no loss of quality). What program would create those? The other question that intrigues me - am I the only one here not able to copy audio cds in the conventional manner? Cheers, Graham -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... Re: Brasero won't copy a CD
Probably not the only one in the Ubuntu world but I am almost certain all the respondents to your question do not have that problem. I have had some problems with SoundConverter which was a codec thing. Plenty of iso images crap outs but audio cd burning generally without a problem. Might want to review all the various preference settings. SoundConverter can do flacs. Do not know about burning a playable flac cd. My "mp3" player can handle facs so I have given up on the whole disc matter. tab -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... Doesn't seem to have any problem reading originals though. There does seem to be some general problem when it comes to writing CDs using 9.04. I've googled and found plenty of complaints but no answers. Another oddity is that original CDs are now shown as containing wavs when they always used to show up as .cdda. I'm giving up - for now. I'll stick with making 320kbps mp3 till a solution is presented. Cheers, Graham -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... Yes, they cat be "mounted." Of course you'll need some vfs that converts on-the-fly redbook protocol to wav, flac, mp3, ogg, whatever. KDE3 used to be able to do that and it was great. Yep, they can. The burnt cd now mounts (mounts as Audio Disc - cdda://sr0/) - I just have to wait for about 2 minutes. Can see all the tracks in nautilus & rythmbox (wav files, file size matches exactly, visualization works, track titles are there, etc) can even "play" them, but alas no sound when I play a track - even in Windows[1]. Odd. Given that, and to be fair, I burned another using brasero from the Applications menu. Create a new project: Disc copy Create 1:1 copy of a CD/DVD Properties Burning speed: Max Speed Options: Use burnproof (decrease the risk of failures Eject after burning Copy Average drive speed: 3417KiB/s (19.8 x) Same results. Interesting as the info on "Create 1:1 copy of a CD/DVD" states that it is for both audio & data. So this time I try: Audio Project And then try using the ~/.gvfs cdda://sr1/ Track 1.wav etc files & get the same error as Graham in his original post: "Track 1.wav could not be handled by GStreamer. Make sure the appropriate codec is installed" So rather than burn another AOL coaster, I switched to the old & faithful standby: K3b. Click CD Copy: Source Medium: Audio CD Burn Medium: Empty CD-R medium - Speed: Auto Copy Mode: Normal Copy Writing mode: Auto Settings: Create image, Remove image Start Error: the audio cd was being used by gvfs so, let K3b kill that process & off it goes... CD mounts & plays just fine (with sound :-) in both linux & Windows. Eventually I'll get around to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero [1] I was wrong when I said the CD played fine in Windows in my earlier post; it was on my test machine with no speakers attached... I had assumed since it came up, played w/visuals etc., that it was working. Finally tested with headphones & like in rythmbox, no sound. -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@...
