Well, I think that there should be a way to turn this off as well. I wouldn't be on this page if it wasn't something bothering me... :-(

There is. And you don't even need OOo for that :-)

mv foo.pps foo.ppt. (a pps is just a ppt with some grossly
other file extension. Inventions in M$ style).
