Bug Problem with pedigree tree

Since I downloaded the new version of Ubuntu 9.10 I have had problems with Gamps. I keep getting messages on updating but nned to do a backup. I am very amateur with computer s and not sure how this is down. Also I keep receing a bug message No 212387 Error. No idea wht this means but it is preventing me accessing my pedigree tree. Please can someone kindly advise and in simple computer language. Many thanks

Can you start Gramps from the Terminal? So open Terminal or Konsole
program, and just type:

gramps

After an enter, GRAMPS should start.
Then you should see output appearing with warnings and error messages
on the terminal.
You should copy those messages here, so I can see what your problem is.
