Building on enterprise Linux--rsync issues

Hello,

I'm exploring building T2 7.0 on the custom version of Red Hat that my
new employer uses. Package compilation was surprisingly smooth--for
the desktop target, only Mplayer and Qemu failed to build.

At the end of Build-Target, though, I saw the output:

Syncing root file-system (this may take some time) ...
rsync: --specials: unknown option
rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at main.c(1004)
-> Unmounting loop mounts ...

The host distribution uses rsync 2.6.3, which is apparently old enough
to not support that option.

What specifically does T2 need the --specials flag for in this case?
Is it copying device nodes, or are there other special files that need
to be copied to the new image?

If the only special files that need to be copied are under /dev, I'm
tempted to try patching T2 to work around this.

Hi (from holiday, thanks to 3G availability even on lonely islands,
these days...)

the --special was indeed for device nodes and e..g FIFOs some packages
create (e.g. minit).

Regards and have fun,
