CD-RW/DVD-R on Ultra 10's?

into the PCI & IDE world, & the implementations had their issues. I recently replaced the CD drive on an Ultra 10 with a Plextor CD-RW/DVD-R drive, & reading data on CD-R discs created elsewhere has consistently been fine. However, now I'm wanting to burn CD-R discs on the Ultra 10 itself. My first experiment didn't work with the software being unable to write the ISO to the disc. So, the culprit is either the software or hardware. Have others had any problems with putting more modern optical devices on equipment of similiar age? Thanks! _______________________________________________ rescue list - http://www.sunhelp.org/mailman/listinfo/rescue |

We got a SCSI card and a SCSI CD- and DVD-burner (Pioneer 104, I think) plus a hard drive to act as a cache (since the IDE drive, which was also running the OS, wouldn't keep up). The stock CD-ROM drive came out and I mounted the extra HD inside. I think the guy I cobbled this together for was using it to burn backups of log data or something. I never used it for that myself. - Will -- Will Enestvedt _______________________________________________ rescue list - http://www.sunhelp.org/mailman/listinfo/rescue |

I replaced the CD drive with a Pioneer DVR-107D and have no problem burning CDs (both images and files) using XCDRoast. (However, I have never been able to burn a DVD because XCDRoast complains of a missing file and I have been to lazy to investigate further.) _______________________________________________ rescue list - http://www.sunhelp.org/mailman/listinfo/rescue |

Not every machine would boot from every drive, and my experiments with a Nakamichi CD-changer were a failure, but, generally all went OK. My experience with Plextors is universally positive. What software are you trying to use? cdrecord (and progeny) has extensive tools and doco for troubleshooting, probably because it dates from an era when CD-anything was a lot less standardized than it is now. On the other hand, if you're using IDE, I know nothing. -Shel -Shel _______________________________________________ rescue list - http://www.sunhelp.org/mailman/listinfo/rescue |

This Plextor is an IDE CD-RW/DVD-R drive for which I was attempting to use cdrecord. I'll continue tinkering with it. Thanks, again! _______________________________________________ rescue list - http://www.sunhelp.org/mailman/listinfo/rescue |
