Calendar SQL Backend plugin - Backup and Accessing shared cal from normal mail client?

Two questions:

1.  In the event that my mail server bites the dust and I need to restore everything, how would I restore the calendars stored in MySQL using Squirrelmail's Calendar SQL Backend plugin? I'm wondering whether simply restoring the MySQL squirrelmail database/tables from a standard MySQL backup would allow users to re-access their old calendars ok?    

2.  Is there a way to access those shared calendars stored in MySQL using a regular mail client (specifically Thunderbird 2.0+ in my case)?
