Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskHello All
I have an Altair connected to my Cambridge 302. Works really well except when I set a task in XCSOAR and declare the task to the 302, my 302 reverts all its settings back. What I mean by this is; I have my 302 set to Knots (both Vario and ASI) and Feet for Altitude. When I declare the task (which incidentally works) the vario resets to m/s, km/H and meters respectively. I then have to connect to the 302 with the serial port and reset those settings. All other functions are normal. Has anyone seen this before? Cheers Alf |

Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskHi Alf,
Any luck with your 302? -- I'm trying to get my 302 to declare a task from xcsoar 5.2.2 and it won't declare at all. I'm wondering if this is an issue with my 302 or with xcsoar. any thoughts? Thanks, Rob

Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskIt's an issue with XCSoar I think --- we're probably sending a command
telling it to use metric rather than reading what it is using and then sending that back (or not sending it at all). We need to look into this to solve it I think. helpful. I'm looking into the 302 compatibility now. Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskI have had the same problem declaring with a 302A- use to work but stopped. Today I deleted and reinstalled XCSoar on my PDA. May fly tomorrow and see if it will declare. I have an older version on a SD card and that will declare. ----- Original Message ---- From: Rob Dunning <rob@...> To: xcsoar-user@... Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskHello Rob
Apologies for the belated reply. No - no luck. I have tried a few things but no luck at all. I have now upgraded my ALTAIR to the latest version XCSOAR (5.2.2) in the hope that this may fix it but I have to say its gotten worse (well, or better depending on how you look at it :) ). I does not reset the 302 anymore BUT it does not declare at all now. XCSOAR simply says there was an error declaring. This happens on not only while declaring to the 302 but also to the FLARM (though I am not surprised that the Flarm does not work as its a GENERIC SERIAL device. Both Flarm and 302 work fine with XCSOAR meaning that they indicate ok. Thanks John for the reply - great to hear. I must say you guys are doing a great job with XCSOAR. Thank You. If you need more accurate info or even screenshots of the issue, let me know please. Cheers Alf

Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskAlf, We've fixed the 302 issue w/ XCSoar -- it now declares correctly, and does not overwrite the 302's settings. I flew w/ it today. It will be released w/ the next .cab.

Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskHello Rob
THATS GREAT WORK! ![]() Thanks a bundle for doing that and I look forward to the next release. Will that include an ALTAIR release? Cheers Alf

Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskI found that with previous versions of XCSoar, it sometimes took two pushes on the Altair (why I am not sure, perhaps if the the C302 was device 1 or 2) to have the task declared to the C302 but it was never an assured procedure, I look forward to the fix on next Altair version, I have not yet flown XCSoar 5.2.2.
Cheers

Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskHello Rob (Johnny?)
Any news yet on when the 5.2.4 version will be released for the Altair? I am eagerly awaiting it as I am still not able to declare my C302. If it still will be some time (or not intended) I will have to revert to an older version that is not OLC compatible but does declare. Many thanks Cheers Alf

Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskI hoping too, check here everyday so that it might be the lucky one!
Good to see the C302 problem solved, I had that too.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Altair runs a modified version of XCSoar. These changes were unfortunately not merged into the "official" XCSoar yet, and 5.2.4 (or any newer version) won't be available until after the merge. This is being worked on. If you want to be sure, ask Triadis for official information. Max ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us! Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskAlf,
I'll to defer to Johnny who creates the cab files for the sourceforge.net site. I suspect that we could compile 5.2.4 for the Altair, however, I do not know if that configuration has been fully tested. Triadis may have a version available that would not include the 5.2.2 or 5.2.4 features, but would also not have the CAI 302 bug that was introduced in version 5.2.2. Re: Cambridge 302 resets when declaring TaskThanks Rob
I did end up winding back to 5.1.8 but re-discovered that when I declare it resets the C302 back to defaults i.e. Meters and km/h. I may just have to continue to live in pain with 5.2.2 and not do any badge tasks :) - all good. If you guys have a test spec document then I would be happy to test the C302/Altair compatibility if that is all it needs. I suspect Johnny would be using it on his Altair anyway. Cheers and thanks for the speedy replies. Alf

I think it would be nice to have a list of testers for each hardware we support, so we can make sure that every new release is tested properly. Can you please create a wiki page for that, and add yourself? Max ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us! Airspace proximity warningI've noticed that the airspace warnings in XCSoar are great, if your
headed on a course that will violate an airspace. However, if you are on a course which will take you close to but not in violation of an airspace, you are not warned. I routinely fly under a class B airspace along a ridge, where the ridge is about a thousand feet below the class B. On a strong ridge day, we fly low and don't worry about the airspace. But on a "soft" ridge day, we fly higher, within a couple hundred feet under the bottom of the airspace. If a thermal comes along, we could easily dolphin up through the bottom of the airspace. In this scenario, XCSoar would not warn until after the class B airspace is violated. Yesterday I missed the class B by about 100 feet and XCSoar never warned me. I was flying in "All On" airspace mode, but in the XCSoar Simulator last night the same behavior happened in "Auto" airspace mode. I also confirmed in the Simulator that changing course to violate the airspace when very close to it does generate the warning after the violation occurs. My suggestion is that the airspace warning be programmable for (1) vertical safety margin (in feet/meters) and (2) horizontal safety margin (in miles/km) where XCSoar would warn the pilot if he is en route to violate the safety margins around the airspace. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions about how this issue or how it might be best designed / implemented?
