Using the filter (I also got rid of all my old events from 2008 and earlier in my Google calendar, but maybe I didn't need to!) worked! Thank you so much!!! Okay, I thought I had this solved, but it seems not. It never works on the first try. Each time, my phone shuts down service during the operation and all that happens is the calendar data already on the phone is wiped. It usually takes several tries.
