Can't run GNU Backgammon

Hi, I install GNU Backgammon in Ubuntu 11.10. I played with it twice but
after that, I couldn't run it again. When I try to use the launcher
icon, nothing happens, in console, this the result:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure gnubg

When prompted select "yes" to build the bearoff database. When you run
gnugb again that warning should disappear.

This is interesting. From the command can you run this command and send
the result of these 2 commands in your reply:

locale
uname -a

Can you email a copy of your gnubgautorc file (This has your current
settings in it) directly to mpetch@... . You will find this
file in your home directory under:

~/.gnubg/gnubgautorc

The version of gnubg that was included in Ubuntu 11.10 was a snapshot from
2009.  I think there were bugs that were fixed since then that caused it
to crash when built with hardening flags.  There are tons of bug reports
in Ubuntu about this.

Just a few days ago, I uploaded a new build of a much more recent snapshot
to Debian, built with the hardening flags, and it works fine, so I'm
fairly sure that the problem is fixed in current snapshots.  Hopefully,
Ubuntu will import that version from Debian for the upcoming release.  In
the meantime, you could import the source package from Debian, or just
build a current snapshot from source.
