Can I use OO Math to write a paper?

I am a novice at text editing and I would like to write a math paper for electronic publication.  Is Open Office adequate for this task on the iMac?

If so, will the result be satisfactory for Wikipedia?  Is there a better alternative?

So the output needs to be in HTML?
Do you have an example of a wikipedia article that uses the math symbols
that you want?
