Hi all,

I had the same problem recently. Check the md5 sum first (my md5 was
ok), and then try to burn to another disc (which solved my problem).

All these are good points, however, with portscanners and stuff it's
sometimes important that latest portscanner versions be used given
that nmap etc. now come with an increasing set of fingerprinting
signatures.  With BT2 as well as other LiveCDs chances are that the
versions of these tools are a little outdated so the best solution is
probably to install the LiveCDs as OS on the hard disk and keep
updating the tools.

I want to load Backtrack without setting a swap.  Is this possible?  How?

Do you want to simply run BackTrack off of the CD, or do you want to
install it to your HDD?

Either way, you do not need to configure a swap partition for it to
operate correctly, but I advise you to have plenty of RAM (1GB at
least).

If you want to search for more advice on using BackTrack, you should
use their forums as this mailing list is really for pen testing
subjects and not really for using operating systems.

Very easy actually! Just use fdisk like the instructions say but instead
of making the three partitions just make one. Make the file system with
mkfs.ext3 and mount it. When you boot into back track go to the
installer and install the bootloader to sda or hda and install back
track to whatever the partion was that you made. Assuming you are using
1 partion and ide it will probably be /dev/hda1

Hi there,

BT runs out of the box without enabling swap.

If you do wish to create a swap partition, just follow the instructions
on the screen after you booted BT (latest version).

Bye, Ian
