Hi:

Trying to run 'kwrite' from the 'xterm'.

i'm not running KDE but another window manager dwm/dmenu.

The following lines are seen ... when starting any application.

...
kded(1543) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Cannot resolve system encoding, defaulting to ISO 8859-1.
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/local/kde4/bin/kbuildsycoca4
kbuildsycoca4(1546) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Cannot resolve system encoding, defaulting to ISO 8859-1.
kbuildsycoca4 running...
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/local/kde4/bin/kbuildsycoca4
kbuildsycoca4(1548) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Cannot resolve system encoding, defaulting to ISO 8859-1.
kbuildsycoca4 running...
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/local/kde4/lib/kde4/libexec/kconf_update
kdeinit4: preparing to launch
kio_file(1551) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Cannot resolve system encoding, defaulting to ISO 8859-1.
...

Any suggestions on how i can fix this 'system encoding' issue as
it seems to increase startup time ?

thanks
Saifi.

Recently I upgraded my KDE to 4.2 and I have seen this error. Now I do not
see this any more after updating kde-base libs. May be this is fixed by
now. So please try updating your kde packages.

Peace,

Hi Saifi,

Did a bit of googleing...and found such posts in kde forums...looks like its
a bug.
Lets hope its fixed quickly.

But if you have no problems with having ISO 8859-1.  this as the encoding
why don't you set it as the default, so that you don't receive such messages
at the start-up of KWrite.
