Cannot start standalone red5 service using red5plugin2 on Ganymede

Hi everyone, Great work done here by the red5 team.
Thanks to all.

However, I have installed as directed and created an application but I get this error message everytime I try to run the application on the server.
Using Ganymede, red5plugin2, red5 0.8,  jre6.0  all running on Vista.

Starting Red5 (org.red5.server.Standalone)
FATAL ERROR in native method: JDWP No transports initialized, jvmtiError=AGENT_ERROR_TRANSPORT_INIT(197)
ERROR: transport error 202: bind failed: Address already in use
ERROR: JDWP Transport dt_socket failed to initialize, TRANSPORT_INIT(510)
JDWP exit error AGENT_ERROR_TRANSPORT_INIT(197): No transports initialized [../../../src/share/back/debugInit.c:690]

I also do stop the red5 service before running the application because I see the - address already in use-  message.

I am wondering what else could be the problem.

Help desperately needed.  Thanks in advance.

Sloopy

Hello Dominick,
Thanks for your quick responds.

Yes I did. I read somewhere that restarting would solve the problem.
I did restart  my system  but that did not work.
Just guessing, could it also be another program using the port 5080  or  8787?
Becuaser it says address already in use.

Thanks

Sloopy

yes, something is using a port that red5 needs.

did you install red5 as well as working from subversion? if so is it running already as a service?

do you have an instance of apache or some other webserver running?

i've used tcpview in the past to solve this problem... to show what processes are using which port.

Hi,

No I am not working with subversion.
I only have red5 running on my laptop as a service.
I'll use your suggestion to see what other applicaton is using the port

I hope that solves the problem.

Thanks

Hello
Using tcpview,  I just saw  a java.exe  file using the port 8787
Does this mean I could change that for another port num during the creation of the red5 application?
I am going to try it anyway.
thanks

or you can change the port from within the bat file and then change it during setting up a runtime-configuration.  However, I wouldn't do it this way cause it's not the standard port anymore

What  I also did was just copy the created  application manually to the red5 webapps folder. I could not connect to it using the port  tester. I am wondering why that. I restarted red5 as usual to get it activated.

I would not attempt changing the standard ports if it is supposed to work fine.
I may reinstall the red5 v0.8 and all the other applications to see if it solves the problem.
Thanks

Re: Cannot start standalone red5 service using red5plugin2 on Ganymede

by Sloopy Mike Gyamfi :: Rate this Message:

Hello,
So far what I have done is to try to make a connection to an application created with the red5plugin2 on Ganymede.
I realised that Eclipse copies the application well to the webapps directory in red5. the only problem is, it cannot start the red5 service automatically.  I did that manually and was able to connect to the new application created.
I hope a solution is found if this is because of a bug somewhere. Somehow for now just start red5 service manually and everything works fine. I am running vista on my laptop.

There is a timeout during the connectrion to the port 8787 for debuging.
On the tcpview, I see the port is used by a java.exe  file. I still think this is because of another application using that port.
However I hope this problem is resolved at soon.

My goal was to get my applications working in red5 v0.8 and I needed to recreate them with the red5plugin2.
Thanks to all

Sloopy

Re: Cannot start standalone red5 service using red5plugin2 on Ganymede

I don't think this is a Red5Plugin bug.  Can anyone on windows confirm or deny that they are having these same issues?

Hello,
So far what I have done is to try to make a connection to an application created with the red5plugin2 on Ganymede.

No, i'm not seeing this behaviour on windows - but i have seen it in the past.

If Java.exe is using the port then either:

you already have an instance of Red5 running (is it running as a service already?)

or

eclipse is using it (meaning that it's being used by red5 running from within eclipse. I've had this problem before, if you shut your server down then the port is not in use, but when you start the server from within eclipse it shows the port in use error and tcpview says that java.exe is using it. Try deleting your server and creating it again. That has fixed it for me in the past, but i have no idea why or why the error occurs in the first place.

I'm having similar problems, though it varies. Does bootstrap work? That's the only thing that works for me on windows to start the server.
