What needs work:

apply both: comp-issue-102.patch and pagination-release.patch

I have applied the 102 patch and closed the issue. See below for the second patch.

delete Pagination\src\Castle.Components.Pagination\Castle.Components.Pagination.build (it was replaced by default.build)

We don't want to delete these yet because the full castle build is using them.

The new Version number would be 1.1.0.0. I hope that's ok.

It is up to you, but the Pagination project has never had a release so you may want to use 1.0. Or we could ignore that so it doesn't sound like the release is from the RC3 days. I haven't committed the second patch, let me know what you want to do and I'll commit it.

As for changes.txt: I did a svn log on the repo and could not find any significant changes since GenericPage was added in Sept. 2008.

As expected.

I don't really know if that's a change from 1.0. Also, where would be the changes.txt file mentioned in the release guide?

The project didn't actually have a Changes.txt, I have created one which we can add things to if needed. This file will automatically become part of the package zip file.

Btw: What's the Nant target for creating a release build? I can't seem to find the right one to check if all artifacts are created.

nant -D:project.config=release package build // will build just the release package
nant merge package build // will build both debug and release packages

v2.1 is rev 5640. Current trunk is 6371, so it may be very well as you said, that it's some issue that we fixed since then.
It would be appreciated if you could verify whether or not this still exists in the trunk so we can fix it before we release v2.2 beta (which I was hoping to do today, but we can postpone it a few days if needed).

I just ran a test, and it does work as expected:

Only just got a chance to look at this now - I've got a quick and dirty fix for the problem (below), by changing the ShouldIgnoreProperty(...) method of DataBinder (FYI - I think this would be quite handy as a protected virtual method, so you can enhance the include/exclude property logic).

I'm a little confused though because while trying to write a test case for the Binder project, I created a class implementing an explicit interface which had a single read/write property. The compiler generates the getter and setter for the explicit interface's property as private (and Final) method's - so the DataBinder never even attempts to bind against these properties, as they're not public (so I couldn't reproduce the error) - but it appears DynamicProxy is generating these methods as public!

At any rate I can provide a test case and fix for the Binder project - but it will require that I extract the call to fetch a types properties (i.e. PropertyInfo[] props = instanceType.GetProperties(PropertiesBindingFlags)) into a protected virtual method, so I can override it to "simulate" the behavior of dynamic proxy creating public explicit interface property getter/setter methods which get returned with the rest of the public properties.

So... Is there some reason DP is making these explicit interface methods public... Thoughts?

The dots are the result of change from few months back, that now all
non-virtually implemented interface members are implemented explicitly,
to allow scenarios where two interfaces have members with the same
signature.
All the tests were passing so I assumed that change did not affect anyone.

Fixing this would be really appreciated, and sorry for the issues. Had
our tests caught it, I would have fixed it myself.

git svn is a PITA. I was dcommitting the master branch and it also

Pagination Release Patches

Could someone please apply these patches for the Pagination release?

Since I have no commit access I have to defer most of the work to someone who has both (commit access and SF access)

What needs work:

apply both: comp-issue-102.patch and pagination-release.patch

delete Pagination\src\Castle.Components.Pagination\Castle.Components.Pagination.build (it was replaced by default.build)

The new Version number would be 1.1.0.0. I hope that's ok.

As for changes.txt: I did a svn log on the repo and could not find any significant changes since GenericPage was added in Sept. 2008.

I don't really know if that's a change from 1.0. Also, where would be the changes.txt file mentioned in the release guide?

Btw: What's the Nant target for creating a release build? I can't seem to find the right one to check if all artifacts are created.

WinForm application

Hi!

Has anyone has been writing winform application + activerecord in the
past? I would really like to use this in my new application (i'm used
to ar pattern, it suits me ;) ), but googling for some examples (fr.
how to benefit from databindings with ar, what about session scopes,
etc.) results in failure.

The application from castleproject isn't even close to be something
helpful (outdated, vs2003). As I can see it doesn't define any session
scopes, doesn't benefits from lazy loading etc.

I also has some more precise questions:

If anybody knows good example of AR in winform application, please
share a link :)
I'm also wondering is there some way to dynamically tell ar that some
property is lazy load or not?
How to work with grids, save data after each edit or maybe go with
datarow and row state property for doing it all in one time...

As you can see I need some general tips mainly and counting for your
help

mono 2.6 is still only a preview release atm, release scheduled for
Dec. So I don't wanna replace 2.4 just yet!

I can set up a parallel environment with Mono 2.6 and script it to
update from the branch regularly. Also it would be useful for testing
Mono/DP issues if we can get fixes in Mono 2.6. Krzysztof and I are
trying to make headway with this atm.

We could use a define MONO26 or similar to keep everything green in TC

I have written a step by step tutorial on how to go about releasing
Castle projects that can be found at http://www.castleproject.org/community/releaseguide.html
If you have time constraints, please let everyone know and I'm sure
some other committer can help you release your project.

I'll be back home in December and willing to help anyone with
releases, at the moment I only have email and limited web browsing
(Internet in Africa is not great but seeing lions in the wild is
priceless!).

Daniel, how is the pagination release coming along?

We know you're not a commiter but there are quite a few things to do to get a release out of the door.

What we need from you are:

- list of patches to apply, if any

- patch to update the changes.txt file

- patch to update doco for pagination on the website

- patch to update website homepage + projects page

That's all I can remember right now but there may be more.

I’m a bit unsure how to deal with Mono, since the DateTimeOffset support is available in the newest build of Mono, but that’s not going to be available in most packaging systems for a while. Thoughts?

The main stopping point for Validator is http://support.castleproject.org/projects/COMP/issues/view/COMP-ISSUE-33.

I do have an idea of how to fix COMP-ISSUE-33 without introducing breaking changes:

1.       Default behavior remains as-is.

2.       Introduce a new Non-required Class-level Attribute indicating the Level of recursive inspection of properties, ValidatePropertiesRecursionLevel (or something like that) :

a.       Where 0 = None (Default), X = Depth, -1 = Full

What would be really good is to change the tests to use sqllite instead of being dependant on physical databases. Is there any reason this can't be done?

Validator and Binder status

I’m heading out of town for the night (it’s a Holiday in the states), but I’ll be back tomorrow and attending to both Validator and Binder.

Validator needs a bit of love before release, and Binder is waiting on it as a dependency. Otherwise, Binder is good-to-go for .NET 3.5. The problem with the build is that the agent isn't using the most recent
mono, and isn't likely to until the upstream packages are updated by the
maintainers.
