Hi,

can you please use Castor 1.3.0.1 as the Castor version ? Given that we
have been suffering from the very same problems, I can reassure you that
with the Maven release of 1.3.0.1 all those problems have been resolved.

Apart from amended Maven POMs, 1.3.0.1 is equivalent to 1.3.

castor and maven problems

Hi Werner

I am running into problems gettting castor and maven to work together.

The probem is that the wrong version of commons-logging-1.1.1.pom is being
downloaded.

The contents of the pom file are:

Hi,

please change all List declarations such as

to

> private List<Resource> resource = new ArrayList<Resource>();

so that all collections are initialized properly.

to give you a precise answer, you'd need to show us the Java code as well.

Still, within your Resources/Resource classes, do you initialize the
lists of resource/fileNames members upon object construction ?

I.e. how do you declare the property fielNames in class Resource ?

private List<String> filenames;

or

private List<String> filenames = new ArrayList<String>();

getting all data from an xml file when its structure is unknown

I'm trying to come up with a way to populate a database for integration tests. The database is Google's BigTable, which is more or less an arbitrarily nested bunch of HashMap<String, Object>s.

I would like to use xml to specify my test data, with a schema for it. I've got a simple setup where I've written a schema and generated the java classes with Castor. But now I need to iterate over all of the objects and call each getter for the attributes and elements, and recurse down when there are collections. I would like to be able to do this in a general sense, without having to know ahead of time what getters the java classes have. I hope that makes sense. Is this possible?

Hi Pablo,

assuming that you are using a mapping file, you need to define the
namespace uri in your mapping file, and then instruct the Marshaller to
use the default namespace definition through ...

marshaller.setNamespaceMapping("","http://mypropietary.xsd");

Does this make sense ?

did you really use

instead of

And on top of that, why not use the source generator throught the
command line tool, Ant or Maven ?

Getting xmlns right

Hi,

I'd like my root element to have this xmlns:

I've tryied this:

marshaller.setNamespaceMapping("xmlns","http://mypropietary.xsd");

but got:

xmlns:xmlns="http://mypropietary.xsd" (note the duplicated 'xmlns')

If I do this:

marshaller.setNamespaceMapping("","http://mypropietary.xsd"); // or send null as the first arg

I get:

xmlns=""

Any idea how can I make it work? Thanks!

I am working in a application that needs to read a XML file and convert it into Value Objects that the application will process. I have started to use castor and I have completed 99% of the mapping between the XML File and our Value Object. I have a couple of questions about best practice and to ensure that I have defined the mapping correctly. The XML Data File and Value Object class hierarchy are fixed and can not be changed. I have developed a simple example of how I believe I should define the Castor Mapping file. I can provide you with the files and the java object if that helps...

2. I wanted to be able to set the "castor.OuterObject" on the "castor.FieldTwoObject" when it is being added to the OuterObject. Originally I had a set method called setFieldTwoObjects that would set this relationship whenever Castor added the FieldTwoObjects to the OuterObject. When I tested this I realised that Castor called the getFieldTwoObjects and added the new object to the returned list. Then I added a separate method that took a single FieldTwoObject and set this as the "set-method" and in this class set the relationship. Is this the correct approach or is there a way to specify this relationship in the mapping file.

3. Can someone please explain what the usage of the "container" element and what it should be used for...

Okay, I think that's enough context for me to suggest a few things.

Top of my head, I think a good starting point should be to analyze the
createClassDescriptor() method of the XMLMappingLoader class to see
where additional log statements could be inserted.

In particular, have a look at line 182ff and 292f where the
auto-complete attribute of a ClassMapping instance is being considered
to decide how to go about descriptor creation (from a mapping, ...).

SimpleType generation

Hi Werner

I found the error - There was a dependency elsewhere to castor 1.3.0.1 -
I changed to dependency to castor 1.3 and everything is working again.

I have a new problem with SimpleType generation:

The code generation correctly generates EntityAssociationType.java in the
types directory

I am using Maven and everything stopped working when I cleaned my local
repository yesterday.

These are the versions I am using:

Re: How to display actual used mapping?

I have a working mapping right now. Mapping of some classes and attributes is defined manually in the mapping xml file. Some parts of the mapping are auto-completed by castor. It all works perfectly.

Now I want to define the parts castor auto-completes manually. This is because I would like to define each persisted class and it's attributes explicitly. I use castor mapping to basically create a "save file" of some of my classes. By defining all the mapping manually, I can 1) document which fields are stored in the savefile, and how and 2) protect against old savefiles getting broken when when I for example refactor the name of one attribute.

Recreating the auto-completed is a bit time consuming and error prone. Some eg. collection mappings that work when castor auto-completes the mapping, seem to be a bit difficult to create by hand and figuring out where (un)marshalling failed takes time. That's why it would have been nice to see which kind of mapping castor automatically created and copy from that.

Thanks for the info.

I am not generating code. I am converting Jdom Element to castor schema. This way I can easily read the content of type schema.

If Type schema has imports with references to other XDS, there is no problem with the conversion. Here I was testing the import of definition not the schema and its shown in the original link

data binding tool of choice, and have those tighlty integrated with your
WS framework of choice.

Castor still has this issue with default implementation of imports handling.
This can be customized and fixed, but still there are other issues like
referencing element definitions from xsd namespace which weren't that
important for me and I didn't spent much effort there. Despite that at that
moment castor was the best from open source I could find to handle xsd-s
from wsdl :) adsfdsaf

Hi James,

this is what I expected as this is a Maven repository, and the directory
given below points to the project's parent POM; by definition, there
won't be any JARs produced for the parent POM.

You will have to look into the individual sub-modules such as xml, etc.
to find the JARS. Better even, simply start using Maven and have Maven
downloaded all dependencies into your local Maven repository.

Hi,

I don't think the current code base has support for this feature. Whilst
it could be added in theory, one has to keep in mind that a mapping file
is just one way of defining a binding between your Java classes and the
corresponding XML documents.

Internally, Castor XML (as well as JDO) uses descriptor classes to
establish exactly that binding information, And afair there's some
debugging output related to establishing what descriptor(s) is being
used during unmarshalling.

So how about defining what you are looking for once again - keeping in
mind what I have just said.

Castor still has this issue with default implementation of imports handling. This can be customized and fixed, but still there are other issues like referencing element definitions from xsd namespace which weren't that important for me and I didn't spent much effort there. Despite that at that moment castor was the best from open source I could find to handle xsd-s from wsdl :)

I am only parsing the "Type" part of the Schema, there is no intention in compiling WSDL. In fact your second point is closer to what I am doing. I am reading DOM Schema from wsdl definition and regenerading JDom Schema format (DOM -> JDom).
