Cddb info for ripping CDS

I have just started using Banshee on Mandriva Linux Spring2009.1

it works fine with my iPod, but does not succeed in getting CD title and track info when I want to rip a CD

the yellow box at the bottom just indicates - Searching for CD metadata - but it never manages to get it!! presumably it is trying to connect with the Cddb server?

any suggestions please?

interestingly, I am getting CD artwork, so something must be connecting with something (you can see I am very technically knowledgeable)

I am not sure what to glean from no replies to my first message - has nobody else had this problem? has nobody any suggestions as to what I can do about it? maybe Banshee is not configured properly on my computer? please help!!

thanks

AFAIK, the artwork is fetched from Amazon, but I think you need to know
the ASIN for that, which Banshee gets from Musicbrainz.

Actually, Banshee uses Musicbrainz for CD metadata. This looks like some
old problem - what version of Banshee are you using?

I was using 1.5.0, installed from the Mandriva software repository...however....

I have just updated this to 1.5.1 and tried inserting a few CDs which were recognised and track titles displayed.

Looking on the Banshee website there is some good news under bug fixes for this version

# Prevent endless "Searching for CD metadata..." (BGO #527788)

So it seems my problem has been solved, thanks for your reply because it jolted me into looking for a newer version.

I have fairly recently switched to Linux and am still seeking out and trying out Linux replacements for previous Windows software

Songbird does not yet rip CDs and I found it does not transfer all file data from computer to iPod, particularly duration information, therefore you could not skip through a track which was frustrating when listening to lengthy podcats etc

Banshee does everything I need in transferring CDs to my iPod and keeping my iPod in order, its a great find
