Certain Users Unable to login to Squirrelmail

After doing a port upgrade on squirrelmail, I have few users (5) out of 200 users that are having issues login into their squirrelmail. The login takes longer than expected and time out after trying to login with an error message: Internet explorer cannot display the web page

That being said, every weekend around 9-10 am in the morning squirrelmail does not let people login with error message : ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server. I have tried to find out what the problem really is, but have not come to a resolution yet. I will like someone to help me in resolving this issue.

Thanks,

Sounds like your IMAP server is not working right.

Make sure that your have the Maildirs sat up right (ownership and such)

I would say its not a SM issue at this point that it would be on your server side... please troubleshoot your system

Have a good day!

Check your web log.

The web server or PHP may be timing out while SM builds the message and folder
lists.

So what's different about those users? Large mailboxes? Filters
enabled?  Internet Explorer is awful when it comes to actually telling
the users' what really happened.  Generally, it tells them it was a
DNS error, when the server returns a 500 (error).  Can you recreate
the issue if you login to those accounts from another computer?
Another browser?  If you're stuck with Internet Explorer, try turning
off (uncheckd) friendly errors (Tools | Internet Options | Advanced |
Show Friendly HTTP Errors)

So what is running on your server between 9-10 am?  A generally theory
is everybody is checking there email when they get into work.  You
don't mention anything about your system (which we often ask for, and
even tell you about in the mailing list greeting), so I can only
speculate.  Courier-IMAP has a limit of 4 connections from each IP,
which would generate a similar error message.  More details, and maybe
we can help.

Thanks Jonathan for your inquiry. I believe I have tried using the login of those users from multiple different computes. Probably, these users have their filters enabled which I have not checked. But every other things has being checked more than x number of times.

On the second response, this only happens on the weekend and that these users including myself are trying to access from our home computer. This only happens on saturday morning.

Now the problem is not an imap error, but a time out in trying to login to squirrelmail. At the end, a page cannot be display error message will show up.

Filters plugin can cause some issues, especially if the user sets some
options, such as scanning all messages every time, or enabling the
spam filtering options (which does DNS lookups on every message).

SquirrelMail doesn't have scheduled maintenance, or anything built in,
that'd make it just stop working on a saturday at a certain time.  So
look on your system, and figure out what else is going on.

Thanks. How can I disable it from the backend since the user is not able to login on to squirrelmail to reverse any filtering or spam enabling at the frontend. In other words, is there any special command that will help me disable the spam or filtering options.

Thanks,

Which on of the configurations to edit? Please let me know, because I went to the filter directory in squirrelmail and not sure what configuration to disable.

thanks
