Cheap Acer notebook on Newegg: What wireless chip does it use?

I found this laptop[1] for a GREAT price but I haven't been able to
find out what wireless chip it uses and I want to make sure it works
under F11/F12. I've tried acer.com but they don't list the chip.
Anyone have one or know where to find it?

Thanks,
Richard

I couldn't find out either. Mail Acer and, while letting them know what
dimwits they are, ask about the chip that the wireless card uses.

Do that, and I'd be surprised if you got any answer.

At that price I may take my chances and if I have to buy a PCMCIA or
USB wireless adapter.

Thanks,
Richard

I don't know but doesn't the cited web page answer the question at the
top of the page?

ATI Radeon HD 3200 - Retail

Umm... I think you got confused between the wireless and the video chip...

Anyway, I found this[2] site which indicates that at least with his
version of the laptop the wireless worked. There are several
sub-models, some come with 802.11g and some come with draft N. At
least it makes me feel a bit better.

Thanks,
Richard

Try this link, lists quite a few more details although it doesn't
actaully list the *brand name* of the wireless chip.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.279137

If details are hidden, should be a link under the #2 (the laptop itself)
that says "Show details" that you can click on.

Actually, you can add a Rosewill RNX-N100 USB 802.11n later. And they work great
with Linux (and the matching Rosewill Wifi router if you don't have n yet).

I think you may need the kmod-wl driver for the built-in chip, Acer like
Broadcom and my similar Acer does, but unless you think you will go to hell for
using non-open source drivers, you are fine. Supposedly 2.6.32 will support many
of these, but I'll pass on that kernel for a while, until I'm sure all the
issues with filesystem loss are fixed.
