Classes @ sfXWe're looking into advanced studies classes @ the complex. This is
motivated by the lack of higher level offerings with the city's colleges: SFCC, CSF, and so on. So my question to you is: What classes would you be interested in that you cannot find in Santa Fe's current colleges? What would you like to take from UNM or Highlands or other universities that you cannot take here in Santa Fe? To get you started, some of us have talked about this and here are some ideas: - Graphics: advanced graphics including your basic transformations, possibly including GPU programming. - Computing: Cris Moore's book The Nature of Computing, or a more traditional Theory of Computation book. Algorithms. Knuth. - Math: Two areas of importance to much of what we do: Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics. A review of undergraduate math like the wonderful All The Math You Missed But Need For Graduate School by Thomas Garrity. - Complexity Topics: Complexity touches on many specialities. These would be good "special topics" short courses. They'd include Game Theory, Data Mining, Artificial Life, Graph Theory, Machine Learning, Stochastic Processes and so on. So here's your chance! Do you have any classes you'd like to have that are not available in Santa Fe's colleges? I'd like to collect topics and people interested in them. -- Owen _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@... http://lists.sfcomplex.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss http://www.nabble.com/sfComplex-Discuss-f33403.html |

Re: Classes @ sfXOwen,
This is very exciting stuff!! Here's a couple of things I'd be interested in: - Basic Electronics (tried to take this at SFCC but it got canceled) - Physical Computing (would love to see Simon's class reborn) - Surround Sound mixing for DVD - Sound Mastering for audio and video production - also the Math and Computing classes listed below Thanks for the great ideas! Re: Classes @ sfXHey, Owen: thanks for asking-
I'd like some courses in electronics. Then I'd like the robotics class to return. I have lots of robotic / electronic art projects planned, but lack basic information. Also the list of ideas around Complexity sounds like a shoe-in, we should already be offering those in house and to the commmunity, in my HO. Excellent stirring of the pot. Re: Classes @ sfXOwen,
I did lead a graduate level seminar in "Understanding the Complexity of Twentieth Century Music" this summer at the Complex. I'll be glad to consider doing it again with a slightly different focus. Re: Classes @ sfXI would love to see more robotics and DIY electronics sessions as well
as another polymer clay tutorial. A combination of the two mediums would be ideal. Tyler On Oct 30, 2009, at 4:30 PM, Owen Densmore wrote: > We're looking into advanced studies classes @ the complex. Re: Classes @ sfXHappy to do it. I am going to pursue this myself in my studio if there is not enough interest at the Complex per se. My own work is going towards this direction. If others are interested, let me know. I will pull classes together. Tory Tyler- how about polymer/mixed media arduino rainsticks that respond to degree of ambient lighting to make sounds, rather than to gravity?
