Clonezilla issue resolvedThe past week or so we've been trying to get Clonezilla to work on some old computers in a test network. Every time we tried to boot the process would stall out at the pxelinux.cfg exchange. A packet-sniffer showed that once the first attempt to send the file failed, none of the subsequent attempts where a slightly modified file name was asked for (eventually leading to the transfer of the default pxelinux.0 file).
Today however, we began to move new computers into the lab that we are using. We removed the client machine and replaced it with one of the new computers. Clonezilla is now working flawlessly. It is of note that the machine that was replaced, when connected to one of the other two computers in the lab that we had tested as Servers for this, worked just fine. We're not sure what exactly caused the problems, but we are fairly certain that they were caused by the network card, not the OS or anything like that. NOTE: we have found that it works on Fedoras 8 and 10 as well as on Ubuntu 8. The network card information is as follows. The non-cooperative computer was using a 3Com 3C905-TXM ethernet card which which under boot options was listed at MBA UNDI Bus 000 Slot 00. The new computers use an integrated card listed in boot options as IBA 4.0.22 Slot 0140. If you find that your system is having a similar issue to the one we have experienced, I recommend using a different make/model of eth card as some of them do not seem to be fully compatible with Clonezilla. -John ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Crystal Reports - New Free Runtime and 30 Day Trial Check out the new simplified licensing option that enables unlimited royalty-free distribution of the report engine for externally facing server and web deployment. http://p.sf.net/sfu/businessobjects _______________________________________________ Drbl-user mailing list Drbl-user@... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/drbl-user |

Re: Clonezilla issue resolvedHi John,
Thanks for sharing that. That's true, some of the network card comes with "buggy" PXE firmware, so it won't work with pxelinux. The best solution is to upgrade the PXE firmware of network card. However, if it's old one... maybe a newer firmware is not available. One of the workarounds is to disable the "pxelinux.0" on dhcpd.conf config file, and turn on "gpxelinux.0". It may work. Steven.
