I still try to focus on CFUnit, but I have not upgraded it in a while.
It is still active and I do still try to support it as requests for
help or support come in.

However, I think changing the name to "ColdFusion Unit Testing" would
be best. There are other frameworks out there, and I have seen what
the MXUnit folks have done, and its a very nice product.

CFUnit was a dead project before the current owner resurrected it.
cfcUnit has died off (Paul's not doing CFML these days). MXUnit is

MXUnit provides most (all?) of that, I believe. They're also looking
at adding annotations to allow you to run specific groups of tests, as
well as dependent groups of tests (a la TestNG). The MXUnit team have

Is CFUnit still actively maintained? There haven't been any releases or updates to the website in 2 years.

These are some modifications to CFUnit that I think would make it more usuable:
* Adding an argument to the TestSuite class to specify a single test method to run. This is useful when you're developing a test, or curious about a single test, and don't want to run the entire suite.
* Modified TestRunner.cfc to stream a list of tests as they're run. This is useful when running large suites, since CFUnit's default behavior is show no status at all.
* A template listing all test classes and functions, to allow user selection of specific suite/method to run.

CFUnit on BD .NET 7?

Has anyone tried running the latest CFUnit on BD .NET 7?

I can't seem to get it to work right in the browser or the CFEclipse plugin.

I always run into a problem where the methods in the file /framework/TestCase.cfc aren't being recognized correctly.

'Method setName could not be found. Check that the method is publicly accessible, the correct number of arguments are specified and that the argument types match'

I have the mappings setup for the net folder, as the help docs on CFUnit suggests.

If I invoke TestCase on it's own it executes without error but as soon as I try to run any tests (even the example that ships with CFUnit)... crash and burn. Very bizarre.

If anyone else has this problem, please let me know...

output to JUnitReport

Hi all,
I have become a bit believer in test driven development. I use CFUnit to do my test cases from the browser. I want to run the test in ANT but when I run the ANT script on the command line the CFUnit error is output to the command line. How can I get the CFUnit output in JUnitReport? Is it possible? I notice that MXUnit can do it.
here is my ANT script:

Cannot Connect to Repository

When I tried to connect to https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/cfunit using SVN Repository Exploring in eclipse I got the following error:

Surely a CFCUnit or mxUnit user would also be ideal? They are very similar to use (although mxUnit is probably the best of the 3)

That may just be bad phrasing so allow me to clarify:

Early versions of cfcUnit required that you had Mach II installed
because the test runner application depended on it. cfcUnit was not
built *for* Mach II. Nowadays, cfcUnit contains a self-contained,
modified version of an old Mach II core just for the HTML app that
lets you run tests from a browser. You don't need to have Mach II
installed anywhere yourself - cfcUnit is a simple install'n'run setup
now.

Here at Adobe, we use cfcUnit extensively to test components that are
part of a variety of frameworked applications, both Mach II and
Model-Glue, as well as components that are part of models that are
invoked by web services and/or Flash Remoting.

My experience with CFUnit leads me to expect the same framework
neutrality as I've seen with cfcUnit.

Hi, I'm a big fan of cfunit. Attached are an automated runner template
for cfunit and associated application.cfm that I would like to
contribute to the project. Put it in a directory that has unit tests
below it and it will generate a list of all the tests in that dir and
its subdirs . Click on a link to a test and run that test. Click on the
link to a directory and run all tests below that dir. After you run the
test you get the results and the links back ready to run the next test.
Basically it generates a runner interface for all your unit tests in a
project.

CFUnit v2.0 Beta Release

Hi everyone, just posting to let you know that I've released a beta
version of CFUnit v2.0.

What's new in this release? Well, other then the usually bug fixes, I
have cleaned up the code a bit. Hopefully this will make it easier for
people to read the files and contribute, and therefore improve the
project in the long run. There is still a lot of work to do to get the
files truly clean and easy to read, but it's a step in the right
direction. I plan on adding the CFCDocs to the web site soon too,
which will also help with this.

This version has also been tested on BlueDragon (thanks to Greg
Stewart for the help there), so this version will be available to a
wider audience.

Also, the primary change is what I call "inline testing". This means
you can include a CFML module, and write the unit tests for a CFC...
right inside the CFC it is intended to test. This is intended to help
projects that are need to be portable, and would like to avoid extra
test CFCs. They can now place the tests right inside the CFC being
tested. This is also useful when writing a CFC which is just a proof
of concept or prototype in which case you might not want to add the
extra unit test file to the overall project right away. You can now
write tests for those CFCs quickly and easily without the need to add
more files to the project. There is no documentation on this new
feature yet but feel free to email me if you are interested in
exploring this. Documentation will be available prior to the final
release however.

This version is 100% backward compatible, so you should be able to
install it and not have to make any changes to your existing unit
tests.

FWIW, cfcUnit puts message at the end of the argument list (which was
the right decision for ColdFusion, of course).

Frankly, there's a huge difference in the code quality and structure
between cfUnit and cfcUnit - cfUnit is really nasty code and really
hard to follow, presumably because it's very close to jUnit (which is
also a steaming pile of...). cfcUnit implements the concepts of jUnit
but does it in a much more idiomatic way with much cleaner code.

I'm not criticizing you Rob because I know you took over cfUnit as,
effectively, a "dead" project and resurrected it and the core codebase
isn't yours.

I use cfUnit every day - because of the ant / builder integration in
Eclipse - but I recommend cfcUnit to everyone who doesn't specifically
want to do that integration. I said this at the time and I'm going to
say it again: I'm disappointed you decided not to throw your weight
behind Paul's cfcUnit and help move that forward as *the* unit testing
framework for ColdFusion.

I don't know if you've listened to Hal and Jeff's Out Loud where they
talk about frameworks competing and wish that authors would work
together to unify things. I really think you should consider working
with Paul to extend his codebase to provide the ultimate testing
framework.

I'm totally for it.

Of course you could do something very similar to what you did with
TestCaseExtra and have an extended version that just changes the order
of how things are organised.

Then people have the choice.

It's not ideal, but it works.

CFUnit's Message Argument

I've seen that suggestion before (was it Mark Mandel that asked about
that a while ago?), and in hind sight it would be the best way to go.
I originally modeled everything after JUnit, right down to the order
of the arguments. Of course Java has overloading, and CF does not, so
that was a bit short sighted of me.

My main concern at this point is if I change it now, then everyone
already using CFUnit will have to change all their unit tests too, so
I was not sure which would be considered the bigger annoyance - the
poorly ordered arguments or having to rewrite every unit test.

In lieu of his suggestion I figured I would post a message on the
mailing list to see what the consensus is on this change.

Well, it seems the issue was resolved by upgrading ColdFusion to version 7.0.1. I changed nothing in any of my apps, but as soon as I updated to 7.0.1, my Ant builds work without manual updating my CFCs. Here is the link to the updater:

Small bug fix in TestCaseExtra

You're gonna hate me, but I found a small bug in TestCaseExtra -

The '' section didn't have the
SUPERset... which caused an error -

News: CFUnit launches its product release!

Six months after its beta release, and four months after its first
release candidate, CFUnit has launched its first stable production
version. CFUnit is a xUnit testing framework for ColdFusion, modeled
after the popular JUnit framework.

This release includes more detailed SQL exception messages, as well as
new set of core runner files. These core files are for convenience and
can by duplicated to begin building ColdFusion unit tests as quickly
as possible.

From version v0.1 to v1.0 CFUnit has grown steadily. Interesting in
the project is constantly increasing, which is visible in the
project's download rate which continues to trend upward.

This interest is fueled by the release of articles focused in unit
testing ColdFusion, such as the three part article released by Fusion
Authority, an online technical magazine:
