It depends on the prerelease and who is running that product's
development.

I can proudly say that I was on the CS4 Master Collection prerelease
now. In fact, I think the NDA allowed me to say I was on the CS4 MC
prerelease even while it was still in development, however, there were
certain things I could not discuss. Adobe was great about telling us
what/when we could discuss and it usually mimicked what Adobe folk had
previously previewed at user groups or other media.

Since we have not heard much about CF9, my guess is that the CF9
prerelease is a bit more tight-lipped.

Either way, I always play it safe when it comes to betas. I don't want
to screw myself out of a good prerelease invitation. Not that I have
ever been in one...

Actually, the Adobe NDA explicitly states that you cannot even admit the
existence of the beta software, among numerous other things. I suggest

Leave it to "Pud" to bring this up.

I doubt it'll have any effect on CF. First, the CF product team is in
India. Second, there's a new version of CF in alpha. Historically,
Adobe/Macromedia have often let people go after new software releases
- and hired again when it was time for a new release again.

You should be able to batch process the files... are they .txt files?

Might have to use some fancy dos .bat to spool em to the printer. Adobe
PDF's hold printer settings ... if you used a .bat process to run the .txt's
into PDF's with the printer setting you need, then spool them all to the
printer ..

what that exact .bat process is - well ... I know the possibility just not
the code ...

I tried setting 'printer preferences' for the driver in the printer
control panel, but that did not seem to have any affect on what I

Automatically printing

First off, this is not a ColdFusion application.

Can anybody throw out some, hopefully easy, ways to do some automatic
bulk printing. I have a process that generates a series of text
reports. I would like to have these automatically sent to a printer.
The challenge is that to print properly the printer needs to be
configured in a non-standard way.

I can easily do this by opening each report in a simple editor, change
the orientation to landscape and scale the output to fit on a standard
8.5x11 page. But I am looking for suggestions on how I could automate this.

For the record - there is a consensus that says it can be a security issue,
how I'm not sure as I don't use this stuff myself and haven't really
followed up on any of it.

Some people say this:

"The best way to solve this problem is to educate your users. Tell them to
"Right-click and select 'Save As...'.", or similar. It's simply not possible
to 'force' a download in all cases, especially because IE doesn't implement
HTTP properly (extraordinary behaviour for a browser!)."

That's what we got, but since the browser recognizes the extension it
plays the content rather then downloads it. Apparently the desire is to
deliver the video to clients who want it, not just have them play it
streaming from our site.

Is there any easy way to configure our setup so that the video is
downloaded by the browser not played with any plug-in whether or not
such a plug-in is available?

How would one translate the following ColdFusion concept directly into
static web content? We have static web pages that link directly to
video content and it should be downloaded rather then streamed. Is
there some easy way to set this up?

I'm not sure about WinRAR, but you might want to see if 7-zip works
for you. 7-zip has great command line support and is free. I don't
think it converts, but you can uncompress then recompress. I'm would
guess this is what any "conversion" would involve.

ODBC Connection to Microsoft SQL DB Stored Proc

My Microsoft SQL database contains multiple stored procedures with access to these stored procedures secured by SQL Authenticated Login Accounts (i.e. Manager, User, Auditor).

I am setting two session variables, session.UserName and session.Password, to the SQL Authenticated Login account for the level the person is authenticated (i.e. Manager) . I then pass this information through the âcfstoredprocâ tag by username=Session.UserName and password=Session.Password.

My question is when setting up an ODBC connection to this database, do I have to setup a separate odbc connection for each one (User, Manager, Auditor) and set the username and password in the ODBC connection to each of their user name and password (In my case causing me to have 3 ODBC connections)? Because it seems as though my current ODBC connection via the CF Administrator overwrites any of the cfstoredproc settings. In other words, if I were to create my DSN in ColdFusion with the sa username and password, then it doesnât matter what username and password the cfstoredproc passes in â it will run because it is using SA â the DSN account, to run it.

Do you know of any documents available that explains how the ODBC connections and SQL Security tie together? Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Ya know ... if you don't mind the signal to noise ratio - I suggest signing
up for CF-Community. Might be surprised by the depth of knowledge there as
we're all CF-ers ... but some of us have moved onto other technologies. Of
course we're hooked on CF-Comm so we all stay, whether we code in CF now or
not.

Apache Configuration Advice

We have a strange issue that our administer is unable to resolve which
is way beyond my experience with Apache. I just program the web sites,
I do not administer the boxes on which they live. A long description of
our current state and how we got here follows.

We have two domains living on our main production box: (Well there are
other private domains but these two are of concern today).
www.cdpr.ca.gov
www.schoolipm.info

The School IPM site points to a sub-directory of the main CDPR site.
The DocumentRoot directory of the CDPR site is /rootDir/aDir/bDir/htdocs/.
The DocumentRoot directory of the School IPM site is
/rootDir/aDir/bDir/htdocs/cfdocs/apps/schoolipm/.

A few months ago we reorganized a fair amount of the content of the main
CDPR site. When we did this we created an .htaccess file to put 301
redirects in for all the moved content. We also added a custom 404
error file and a directive to deny access to the .htaccess file.

We had to put this .htaccess file in the main sub-directory of the
updates, because if we put it in the site root it would cause the
www.schoolipm.info site to throw 500 Internal Server errors. This works
fine for the redirects since they all are in the /docs/ sub-directory.
But it does mean that the custom 404 error file is only active under
this sub-directory.

Recently we also relocated the School IPM content. Following the above
pattern we created another .htaccess file to put into the old School IPM
directory.

To make this work we had to modify the httpd.conf file for the School
IPM virtual host block to allow for the .htaccess to work without
throwing the 500 Internal Server error for www.schoolipm.info. So we
added the following block.

And this works. So right now all the 301 redirects work for both the
www.cdpr.ca.gov and the www.schoolipm.info domains and the custom 404
error works for all content under the www.cdpr.ca.gov/docs/ sub-directory.

PROBLEM
------------
Well since we thought we had resolved the issue with the
www.schoolipm.info domain and .htaccess files throwing 500 Internal
Server errors, we thought we would move the original .htaccess file from
the /docs/ sub-directory to the root directory so that the custom 404
error file would be used throughout the site.

NO GO!!! When we did that, www.schoolipm.info would start to throw 500
Internal Server errors again. On the chance that it was complaining
about all the 301 redirects for some strange reason, we created another
..htaccess file that just had the custom 404 declaration in it in the
root directory. This was no good either, we still get 500 Internal
Server errors if there is an .htaccess file in the root
/rootDir/aDir/bDir/htdocs/ directory for thw www.schoolipm.info domain.
What is weird is that the www.cdpr.ca.gov/schoolipm/ domain that points
to the exact some content and file works just fine and throws no errors.

Can anybody provide some advice on this issue or other locations where I
could ask about this problem.

On three occasions, google maps produced wrong driving directions for three important business meetings in the last few months, initially I never suspected, but on the third one it became too obvious, of course the whole thing has zero to do with HoF. What module are you using in PERL?

Those look like memory references maybe you are not dereferencing the data
you want properly?

Consuming ColdFusion web service with Perl.

Anybody out there have the pleasure of consuming a ColdFusion webservice
that returns complex data in Perl? I am trying to develop and debug a
web service to be used by both ColdFusion and Perl applications.

I can call the web service and return simple values no problem. But
when I start looking at the methods the return complex data, I just
can't seem to figure out or find anything that makes heads or tails of
what I am supposed to do.

I get the following types of results:
ARRAY(0x1edacc8)
HASH(0x1ed8618)
QueryBean=HASH(0x1eed634)
basic=HASH(0x1ea4cb4)

How does somebody actually make use of the data contained inside these
array, hash, QueryBean and object complex data types?

Do you mean comma delimited records?

Try this:
(syntax not exact - but you get the idea)

Import the records into a table mytable
<cfquery name="FixRecords>
, select fieldtochange from mytable
