Another possibility is do you have any tools like Fusion Reactor
running that have crash protection enabled where if more than 25
requests are running it can abort excessive requests?

Historically, Adobe and Macromedia have allowed this with ColdFusion.
I would second the recommendation to just go with CF 9, though.

Considering that CF has been extremely backward compatible with old
code. If you running fine on CF7, I would just move it up to CF9 and
save yourself the extra work.

You could ask Adobe this question by calling their sales phone number.
Most companies don't allow licenses for new products to cover old
versions. It is worth confirming though. Your best hope for this type
of flexible licensing would be purchasing the product from the Adobe
sales phone number. I would be curious to know the answer to this
question as well.

Coldfusion Version 9....

Does anyone know if you can purchase a license for CF 9 but install CF 8? I
have heard that Adobe offered this program when CF 8 came out. I have a
client that is running CF 7 and I need them to upgrade to at least CF 8, but
with 9 out I wanted to know if they could buy that but not install it yet.
My applications have not been tested on CF 9 yet, so I do not want to
recommend going directly to 9, but it seems like a waste to buy CF 8 and
then later 9.

Let me know if anyone knows an answer to this question. Thank you.

Having upgraded from CF8 Ent. in standard install, this behavior did not occur in CF8.

Since you are using CFSTAT this tells me you are running ColdFusion in standard mode not J2EE. Which means you either chose to not install it in J2EE mode or could not because you only have CF Standard not Enterprise. If you are running CF Standard Edition the question needs to asked to Adobe "Did you put a simultaneous connection limit on the Standard Edition for ColdFusion 9?"

It was not like this in CF8. For example, I could set Max. templates to 80, and CFSTAT will show 80 running requests and would actually queue the rest.

There appears to be some kind of arbitrary maximum of 25 no matter what in CF9.

In other words, in those Scenarios, even though tha max requests has been reached, it should still queue the rest. CFSTAT shows that nothing is being queued since this "25" ceiling has been reached.

The last scenario shows a max request set at 26 (just to prove the point) and CFSTAT will not go above 25 and will queue nothing.

Does this behavior make sense to anyone else? Again, it did not behave like this in CF8 so it's quite baffling!

Judging by the last screenshot (with nothing queued) you're only
dispatching 25 concurrent requests, so while CF would let you have 26,
you're not sending enough traffic at it. Or did I totally misread

Enterprise Edition CF 8 installation of memcached-2.3.1.jar

I'm attempting to install memcached on our staging server however I keep running into problems. (Our development environment is a single server not the enterprise edition.) I changed the the jvm.config file to reflect the new class path in the -Dcoldfusion.classPath setting however on restart I get the following error.

It sounds like this is going to be more trouble than it's worth. Is
there a specific reason why you have to either (a) use IIS or (b) use
CF 7 instead of CF 8?

Thanks for the idea. I did copy runtime/lib/wsconfig.jar over and got
the following error when I tried to use it:

The JRun server(s) found on host 127.0.0.1 must be upgraded to use
this version of the Web Server Configuration tool.

I also got the same error when I tried the CF8 version of runtime/bin/
wsconfig.exe with the CF8 version of wsconfig.jar.

When I tried the CF8 wsconfig.exe with the CF7 wsconfig.jar, I got the
same error as originally. At this point it occurred to me that they
are referring to IIS version 7 being installed, not ColdFusion version
7. I do have the IIS 6 compatibility tools installed.

If anyone has any more ideas on this, I'd really appreciate it.

I suggest you use the CF 8 web server configuration utility, rather
than the CF 7 one. You'll need to copy wsconfig.jar from your CF 8
install.

ColdFusion 7 on Windows Server 2008?

(my apologies if this gets double-posted.)

Is it possible to run ColdFusion 7 on Windows Server 2008?

I successfully have ColdFusion 8 running on a Windows 2008 box, but
haven't been able to get ColdFusion 7 running. Before I waste any
more time, I figured I'd ask if it's even possible, and if so, if
anyone has any pointers.

I've turned on the following role settings for IIS:

ISAPI Extensions
ISAPI Filters
IIS 6 Management Compatibility
ASP.NET
.NET Extensibility
Security: Basic Authentication
Security: Windows Authentication
Performance: Dynamic Content Compression
Management Tools: IIS Management Scripts and Tools
Management Tools: Management Service

I've installed ColdFusion 7 as administrator, and when all is done I
get the following error in IIS:

HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found
The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension
configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file
should be downloaded, add a MIME map.

I then ran the ColdFusion web server connector (again as
administrator) and saw that the connector wasn't installed. I
installed the connector, but when I tried to save the change I got an
error that said something like "version 7 is installed. Supported
versions are 5.x, 6.x". Strange.

Have found the solution I am running CF8.0.1 with Win2k3 and IIS 6.0 64-bit. However, what happens is that when you create the connectors even though your defining 64 bit it extracts the 32-bit isapi .dlls. You will have to extract the wsconfig.jar file and replace them with the isapi connectors from the win64 directory. Once this is done you are able to launch .cfm as well as ASP files and the error goes away.

Have you tried deleting and recreating the connectors? Have you
ensured that you have the latest version of the connector? There have
occasionally been patches that replace the connector.

What version of Windows/IIS are you using? 32-bit or 64-bit?

I had the same a couple of years back. I think it was from trying to run CF8
on Windows 2003 64bit.

Actually, you don't need any files on the web server at all. What you do
need to do is replicate the web servers document root path on the ColdFusion
server. We've just setup a CF 8 distributed mode with VirtualHosts and
multiple instances and that was what we had to do. We also push files from
source control out to the production servers so synching/replicating the
files isn't a problem,

Yes.

As long as you have only a single webroot in your installation, there
is no need for having the CFML templates present on the webserver at
all. If you do need multiple webroots and you have a reasonably modern
application that follows a Front Controller pattern, just putting an
empty index.cfm in the webroot on the webserver and he real code on
the CF server will do fine.

If so did you have a work around for having the .cfm and .cfml files duplicated to the Coldfusion server?

Do you have any recommendations on how to setup this environment more efficiently rather than having the same files all over the place?

You need to place all the JRunConfig directives only in the vhost that
you want to have CF access. What you want is a jrun-per-vhost setup
(instead of the jrun-per-Apache default), with only a single vhost/
jrun pair, and all the other vhosts without a jrun.

That's entirely up to you. Why specifically do you want to use a
domain account? If you're just trying to reduce privileges, you could
run all the services with this account. If, on the other hand, you
want the services to access domain resources, just use the account
with the services that need to access said resources.

CF serves your apps from the CF server, if you're using the
distributed config. It's not reading the files form the IIS server.
So, anything you expect CF to serve needs to be copied to the CF
server in the same places.

Thanks for your response but I am a little confused. If I have IIS installed on the E: drive and under the Inetpub I have 3 root directories that I want to secure which I will be restricting certain CFTags, functions, etc. and my websites will be under these directories how can I set the Sandbox for these directories on D:
