in cfadmin all i see for version is 8,0,0,176276

tells me i need to first be at  8.0.1

Azadi is correct, that is an 8.0.0 version.  The fourth number in the
tuple is a hotfix number that can change by dropping hotfix JARs
(i.e., sans installer).
