Command Line Support

Hi,

I remenber another post about this.

I would suggest to be able to issue command on an embedded cvs command line.

This is mainly important in windows where otherwise we should relay on an
external cvs binary.

Anidea could be to get a prompt in the output window.

Is this feature queued for impelementation?

Thanks

Hi Fabio,

For what purpose you need that? Note, that SmartCVS does not use a command
line CVS executable, but has it's own CVS client built-in.

Hi,

I am involved in a large cvs projects as cvs repository manager (Import, re
import, branching, merging on more than 3 million lines of code modules).

I find smartcvs is  very good view at the repository (which is always needed
is admin related activities) but some times a bare approach is needed to
have a better feeling about what is really happening.

I would suggest to be able to insert command to the embedded cvs client by
the means of a prompt within smartcvs.

Thnaks

This would require to parse the "command line" input. Also, a couple of
command line options might not be available. Sorry, I don't see the benefit of
not using a CVS command line client directly, except that you could avoid
opening a terminal.

Hi,
we experienced  several problems with cvs binaries on windows checking out large modules of about 30000 file  and we are not interested in using cvsnt which is not always interacting smoothly with cvs 1.11
.
So a robust cvs client for windows is not that simple, as it could seem .

We had to dismiss in favour of a pure Linux solution.

Real World is not that simile.

Hi Fabio,

Could you please describe for what exact things you want to have a command
line interface and why the current GUI is not sufficient/effective for you?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I
would not say that the GUI doesn't not suffice.

The
point is that the admin function and the code administration function some
times require a direct access to the code for example to check for implicit
behaviour (e.g. when files are added to the trunk while merging an import to a
branch with a previous branch tag).

Obviously
this can be done by a command line (but all operations could be done by command
line, and this doesn't mean that SmartCVS is not useful). What I think is that
it  could be useful a support  to command line operations or at least
to consider that features of SmartCvs could have also administrative dialogs to
have a single point of interaction with the repository.

Thanks

Fabio
D'Alfonso

Hi Fabio,

Could you please describe for what exact things you want to have a command

line interface and why the current GUI is not sufficient/effective for
you?

Thanks in advance.
