Common licenses and compatibility with Tux PaintSo there's confusion (*raising hand* "hello!") on what licenses are compatible with Tux Paint and the folks we love who distribtue it (such as Debian GNU/Linux). I'd like to make a HOWTO on grabbing existing content and submitting it for inclusion in Tux Paint (as Stamps and Starters). Would someone here be willing to volunteer to make a list of the kinds of licenses one would find, and whether they're suitable for use in TP? (e.g., the Creative Commons licenses used by people on Flickr, Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, etc.) I recently received a picture of an adhesive bandage, license unknown, source website claiming it's free for use. It apparently is used at the Red Cross website, but even they do not know the license (it's been on the site longer than the current webmaster, I guess?). So it's definitely a 'no-no' for us to use it. Instead, I found this: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:AdhesiveBandage1.png Which is licensed as follows: This work is free software; you can redistribute it or modify it under the terms of the CeCILL. The terms of the CeCILL license are available at www.cecill.info. I don't recall ever hearing of this license or that website, so I'm not familiar with it, but it _sounds_ compatible. I'd like to have a checklist of licenses (for me, and others who feel like contributing, esp. when it's _other_ people's work they're trying to contribute), and things-to-do (crop, remove background, determine original source author, etc.) Thx, -- -bill!
