Compatible Cameras for Digiscoping with Swarovski ScopeGreetings Chatters!
I have been happily digiscoping with my Swarovski scope and a Canon Powershot A570 (4x optical zoom/7.1 megapixels). But I was wondering if any of the newer models of Canons or other digital cameras can attach to the Swarovski. Do any of you have any experience with something like this? Thanks in advance! My latest pictures were of the Bar-tailed Godwit that has been at Newport Back Bay in Southern California from Saturday through Monday. (Havent heard any reports today.) Re: Compatible Cameras for Digiscoping with Swarovski ScopeEd,
I too have a Swarovski scope but have as yet to find the best camera to use with it. Typically I use a Kokack easy share but one has to use the LCD screen to set up the shot and this is a pretty futile situation as the bird is usually not visible. A friend of mine uses a Olympus with a 10x zoom which for some reason seems to work great. One can use the view finder (hope that is the correct term... the traditional method pre digital camera method) for lining up the shot and the bird is very visiable. However this is an old camera and is not available now. The interesting thing is that when you use zoom on this camera the actual physical camera zoom aperatatus doesn't extend or subtract all the adjustments are done internally somehow and this seems to work well. Recently I have begun experimenting with using my Cannon EOS 50d with a 50mm lens. I have tried it only once so far. Some shots came out great! So it can work but there is definitely some technique issues as many shots were fuzzy. Auto focus on the camera can not be used so all the focusing has to be done with the scope. I don't own a 50mm lens yet so I only had that one opportunity when borrowing a lens to try it out. Still I think the set up is definitely worth trying. The couple of good shots I had were pretty decent. Plus when can shoot with the RAW format which allows a lot of editing options not available with some point and shoot cameras.
