With BMW's shoddy reliability, I have shifted my focus from the
R1200RT to the Kawasaki Concours.  Anyone with a recent model is
invited to ply me with tales of love and horror.  And if you know of a
place I can rent one for a test ride in NoVA, I would appreciate it.
I have been directed to Eagle Rider but I don't think they carry them.

[Carl]: Kawasaki does a lot of things right . . .but the Concours,
despite its popularity, is a poor man’s tourer.  COG is a great source
of experience.

But, IMHO, you’d be better off buying a used ST.
Two anecdotes:
Bud in Philly took his ST and another took his Concours up the St.
Johns road to Hudson’s Bay.  Month later Concours owner reattached the
parts and became a ST owner.
Bud in Jawja, ex St owner, decided the hype on the new Concours was
convincing and bought one.  Returned it in two weeks and bought a
Triumph.

I’m up in Alaska on my ’96 St with 110500 miles.  I must confess. The
Dalton Highway shook the right tunsignal housing off but an earlier
dump had broken one of the three fasteners. Two weren’t enough.

And FWIW, I see a lot of Geland Strass Boxers up here.  Chatted with
folks about the final drive and yes it happens.  Overloading is a
problem (Guess they didn’t learn from the King Tiger and Elephant
experiences).
