Configuring OProfileHi,
I've compiled OProfile on RHEL3 (2.4.21) for running it on either RHEL3 or RHEL5 (2.6.18). I would have to profile the kernel as well as user space. I run configure with no arguments, yet I had the following line in the output: Checking for kernel OProfile support... yes Also when I tried using the compiled executables on 2.6.18 I got sampling results for the kernel as well. E.g. opreport -l yielded sampling results for various kernel symbols. Obviously I run opcontrol --vmlinux for telling vmlinux location. Yet I must say I was surprised. Does this make sense? Does this mean I would not have to use the --with-kernel-support (or --with-linux) argument when configuring? Or am I missing something?
