Connecting to Firebird from a PocketPC

Hi there

I have a pocketpc that I have written an application for that uses a Firebird database on a central desktop.  If the desktop has ActiveSync and pairing has been completed, when the pocketpc is docked everything works fine.  If I remove ActiveSync from the desktop, I cannot make a connection.  I do see that a TCP connection is established (presumably from ActiveSync on the pocketpc side).

Can someone point me in the right direction to enable communication.  Do I need to write a TCP client or server?  As I'm pretty new to all this, I have no idea where to look.

In relation to this, how can I tell if a connection exists, so I don't have to wait for the timeout.

Thanks a lot

The PocketPC has ActiveSync and I do see that a LAN-type connection is made when I connect it to the desktop and so TCP should be running between the desktop and the pocketPC
