Hello Kirill,
I kind of asked you this question via
twitter, but I thought of asking it again via email again since it is less
restricted.
Due to latest oracle law suit against
google, your recent interest towards javascript and google backing out of
javaone, will you continue to actively develop substance, flamingo and others
for Java? :)
Thanks,
Pedro DV
Re: Continuing development of substance, flamingo and others
Sorry for interrupting but your question makes me feel like the java is
dead. I just wana say my opinion about it. Oracle is a monster company i agree
but they are not stupid, they are looking for accelerating the ROI of Sun
investment (7.2B) they made by collecting all available resources from here
and there and this fight is one of this resources. but both companies will
continue develop for java because they already depend on it, both of them have
tons of code written and depend on Java and JVM. but sadly, this will slow
down the progress of innovation done by JCP and OpenJDK. lets hope this will
not effect java community.
Cheers,
Mina R Waheeb

RE: Continuing development of substance, flamingo and others
Not talking about if I agree or not with oracle law suit but I think Google made their own Java with Android, I don't think there was much contribution to the other original Java going on.
I hope I'm not saying anything stupid.
Cheers,
Pedro DV

Kirill,
That's REALLY bad news for the Java community. I can only hope you reconsider. Your Java work is excellent and very highly valued. Please don't leave us!

Hello Kirill,
I would also like to thank you for your work. You made a very
positive contribution to the desktop side of Java.
Your libraries have made a big difference on my projects by
helping to greatly improve their design and usability.
This is a great loss to Java desktop community and we’ll
surely miss you.
Once again thanks and good luck with your future projects. :)

Hello Kirill.
This is a real pity.
Substance was/is a real pleasure to use.
Thanks for all your work.

I would really really appreciate some more clarity also.
Is this a temporary "suspension" or is this the end of all these projects ?
It would have been nice if it was wound down (i.e. continuing bug fixing but no new features for a lttle while) - but this abrupt halt is a bit unexpected/sudden - I can only hope it's temporary!
Substance has become an intrinsic part of my current project - I guess its time for me to start digging a bit deeper into the code to resolve my own issues now!
But as echoed below it really deserves a blog post on pushing-pixels at least...

Re: Continuing development of substance, flamingo and others
I can only assume that this was a very difficult decision to make. I assume there is nothing the community can do to change your mind, else you would have mentioned it by now. Out of pure curiosity, can you please elaborate on why this is happening?
I've seen many Java Desktop projects fall by the wayside over the past 2 years and I'd like to know what is going on. If you can't comment because of legal or professional concerns, I would appreciate you stating as much.
Kind Regards,
Gili
