Convert any BufferedImage Type to a ARGB Image Type

We process different types of images. Black and White, Grayscale, colored etc.  We add certain colored markups onto the images.

I want to convert all BufferedImages I get into ARGB image types.

Is there a easy way to do this using the FormatDescriptor?

I haven't found a way to use the FormatDescriptor to do this.

Any help in this regard would be really appreciated.
