I wonder how useful airships would prove in a counter-piracy role kind of an aerial predator? Amt one else thought about this?
1 Good observation platform
2 High Loiter capability
3 Good payload (Ordnance Dispensers)
4 Faster than most service vessels!

Yes.   I have been making repeated comments for several months on Naval centric blogs; in an effort to get airships back into general acceptance.  Especially in light of the huge successes of WWII blimp escort of convoys.  The huge difficulty encountered is that generally "blimps" are seen as being to slow and fragile to do useful work.  Sadly, that is a correct perception.  Surveillance isn't enough; one still must interdict pirates physically.

However, new AMPHIBIOUS airships would be perfect vehicles.

I think that contempary ones can be made far tougher & faster than there WW1 grand parents.
Also by say, a gentle application of Browning M2, you'd be able to "interdict pirates physically"
