Creative Extension in LinuxHi Guys,
Does anyone know if the Creative Extension works with Linux? I'll only have access to a computer with a Creative card sometime tomorrow so I can test it then, but would like to know if someone else has tried it... Re: Creative Extension in LinuxHi all,
the Creative extensions uses a Windows dll, so it won't run on Linux. Sven Pete Theisen wrote: > Graham Goode wrote: > >> Hi Guys, >> Does anyone know if the Creative Extension works with Linux? Here is some discussion on Linux and DLL. http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/coffee-lounge/37811-does-linux-use-dlls.html It isn't like someone was trying to run M$ Word or Outlook on Linux. That, or anything M$ didn't want done with *their* stuff, I would never condone or participate in. It appears, however, that the Creative Extensions is a work of Creative Labs. I don't get the impression that Creative Labs *cares* if their "Windows DLL" for Creative Extensions is used on Linux, they just won't offer any support. It is likely that a Linux DLL could be written or reverse engineered for Creative Extensions, and I think that is sort-of what the guys have done, though they may not have called it that. >>> Does anyone know if the Creative Extension works with Linux? Re: Creative Extension in LinuxHi Pete,
I thought you were talking about the "jOrgan Creative extension" since I don't know the term "extension" from the Windows world. It's just that Creative installs the SFMAN32.DLL. If someone offered a Linux equivalent (*.so) we could utilize it for jOrgan. Re: Creative Extension in LinuxHi Sven,
I was talking about the jOrgan extension, and you did answer my question :-) I have now had a little bit of time to discover 'Creative' things in Linux and there is an ALSA utility (asfxload) that will load soundfonts onto the card's hardware sysnth. I will be investigating further and will let the group know when I have something that is workable.
