Creative X-Fi sound cards..FYIAs some/many may be aware the 2.6.31 kernel (rc2 and later) will include
alsa divers for Creative X-Fi sound cards. This is to confirm that the drivers do work and work well. lspcidrake -v |grep snd snd_ctxfi : Creative Labs|X-Fi Titanium series [EMU20k2] (vendor:1102 device:000b subv:1102 subd:0041) Thomas informs me that he has also included the alsa drivers in his latest tmb-kernel updates for 2009.0 and 2009.1. I have tested the card on all 3 releases (cooker, 2009.1 and 2009.0) and will continue to use the card on this 2009.1 system. Re: Creative X-Fi sound cards..FYIGood, but I have some questions:
Do all features of the card work on Linux? Does it uses hardware acceleration? Does the digital output work? Does the input recording work? I ask all this because I have an Nvidia Nforce2 card, which had a very good sound quality, but Nvidia decided to not support it for Linux any longer so now an ALSA driver is available. The bad thing is that this driver doesn't use hardware acceleration, so the sound quality is awful. Now I have a SB Audigy 2 Zs and it's awesome. I didn't get the X-Fi because of the lack of support on Linux, but it would be really good to know that they work fine with the penguin. I can give you no real answer answer to these question. I have done no real testing of the card. My purpose was to simply check and verify that there was now decent sound when using the X-FI card/s in linux. For answers your best bet would be to google or check on the alsa mailing list. > I ask all this because I have an Nvidia Nforce2 card, which had a > very good sound quality, but Nvidia decided to not support it for > Linux any longer so now an ALSA driver is available. Were I recommending a 'Good" sound card to others I would still not suggest that they go out and get a X-Fi card but would suggest they instead they look for a C-media based card such as those offered by HT Omega or Auzentech.
