doesn't detect modification using git tools

I run cc2.8.2 on windows using git tools,when I update git repository,cc failed to detect this update

CruiseControl+SVN+maven2 release

Hi,

I have reached a dead-end while configuring a Cruise Control instance. I'd like to have builds created when there is a SVN change with the maven release plugin.
The problem is that the release plugin commits the new pom.xml amd it is considered a change and a new build is triggered; thus my cruise control creates a new build every 5 minutes.

I haven't tried yet to exclude the pom.xml file from the trigger because I'd like to have it monitored. There are a lot of scenarios in our cases where an intentional change on the pom.xml should trigger a new build.

What could be the solution here?
How could I customize the list of changes from SVN to exclude the entries created by the maven release plugin?

Multiple configuration issues on linux

Running 2.8.2 on FC8.

Here's my laundry-list of problems:
1. when I run build.sh; JAVABIN ends up pointing to /usr/bin/java/bin/java - which is technically correct (/usr/bin/java is a link to /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_15) but it causes an error when the script runs, so I modified the script to set JAVABIN to /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_15/bin/java explicitly - this seems to fix the problem).

2. Tests fail. They seem to just hang on testBuildLoop. So I used -Dskip.test=true, and that allows the build to complete successfully.

3. reporting/jsp has a build.sh. reporting/dashboard does not. reporting/jsp/build.sh required the same modification as the main/build.sh.

4. When I drop the .war files into my tomcat's webapps directory, the apps deploy. But both FAIL to see the specified logs directory, and dashboard-config.xml.
4a. I did specify a valid directory, but for logs, I just get the message "logDir must be set to a directory" then it tells me what I've set it to - which is a valid unix path. But the cruisecontrol.war can't see it. ONLY ONE configuration seems to work. If I go into the web.xml for the cruisecontrol web app, if I specify a <param-value> of ., it seems to point me to /usr/share/tomcat5. Of course, this is still semi-non-functional, but it's better than ANY other path I set it to. Why can't cruisecontrol.war see any path outside of the default tomcat directory? I tried setting a relative path, but that didn't work. I also tried creating a link to my specified directory, but that didn't work either.
4b. For dashboard.war, I've tried setting the value for dashboard.config in the Tomcat Startup as a value for JAVA_OPTS. I tried setting it in catalina.properties. I tried setting it in tomcat5.conf. I tried setting it in web.xml. I tried setting it in every other place I could think of. Why is dashboard.war NOT seeing this system property that I'm setting 8 ways to sunday? It's like both of these apps are in some kind of locked-down sandbox, and can't see anything but their current-directory (if they can even really see that).

5. I'm looking for examples of correct syntax to use SVN for our source control repository for the project I'm building. The documented syntax fails:

I would like to know how to establish proj dependency in CC projects. If I have 2 projects A and B, and I would like A to run first before every time B runs (in other words, A as a bootstrapper for B).

my env:
- RH Linux
- CC 2.8.2
- I am calling ant targets from CC.

I don't see any dependency functionality directly supported in CC. (I am a new user though, so no wonder if I missed some obivious.) Given the nice way CC is designed, I tend to think that, this is not supported for some specific reason.

I am thinking of simulating my need in one of the following ways:
1. Use <antbootstrapper> in B, call the ant target of the A in this antbootstrapper. Problem: Its difficult to simulate bootstrappers, log, etc., of A

2. In <schedule> use <ant> call to call ant target of A, before calling targets for B. Same problems as above.

3. Call A using exec .. don't know if its possible.

Any suggestions on how to achieve/simulate this requirement ? Also if CC delibrately denied this feature for some reason, I want to be aware of that reason, so that, I don't learn the same lesson trying to simulate.

Second dashboard grayed out

All projects on the dashboard builds tab for my second CruiseControl server are grayed out, but the build loop and reporting works ok.

I have 2 CruiseControl servers, one for the 10 projects in my CM trunk and another for the same projects in a CM branch. The trunk server uses all of the default ports, so I changed the ports (jmxport, webport, and rmiport) for the branch server. I also created a separate folder for all branch-related files – separate, tailored cruisecontrol.bat and dashboard-config.xml, and separate logs and artifacts directories. The cruisecontrol.bat is launching Jetty for publishing the results. The dashboard builds tab for the branch has all of the projects grayed out, but the build loop works ok, and the status of the projects on the tab is updated correctly whenever one is built. In addition to the projects being grayed out, the green-circle-checkmark icon doesn’t display, the ‘force build’ and ‘configure project’ icons are disabled, but the “all successful builds” and “all builds” icons are enabled.

So, what do I need to do to have the projects not grayed out?

Our company is also interested in having this function (to pass parameters to a forced build.) All that we have come up with so far is rather extreme: switching to CruiseControl .NET as it offers this capability. Lynn,

Cruisecontrol needs to have control over the local git repository. The git listener performs a sync and if that changes the HEAD revision then it will initiate a build. It doesn't store the HEAD revision id of when it last build.

Add a custom tag to the config.xml project element

I want to add a custom tag to my config.xml's project element so that i can conditionally, in my build results page, change the url behind the Build Artifacts link. I know i could se a context param in the web.xml, but i have many projects in one config.xml and I want to set this on a project by project basis - so, i i can add an tag to the project element and have it available to me in the net.sourceforge.cruisecontrol.taglib.ArtifactsLinkTag class, I'll be able to conditionally set the url.

Where does that file get read per project? is there an Object I can modify to load my new tag and have available to the ArtifactsLinkTag class?

Does cruisecontrol 2.2.1 work on Linux Redhat 5?

We have a working cruisecontrol 2.2.1 environment running on a Sun Solaris 9 Unix System. We're moving over to new servers that will be Linux Redhat 5.

Will cruisecontrol 2.2.1 work if we move it over to our new Linux Redhat 5 environment? Was Linux a supported platform for cruisecontrol version 2.2.1?

I've been doing a lot of searching on the web and haven't been able to find the answer to that. Any help would be appreciated.

Compilation fails with jfreechart 1.0.13

Hi,

I am trying to build cruisecontrol 2.8.2 from source against the
libraries available in system (process of Debian packaging). The
jfreechart version available in my system is 1.0.13 and cruisecontrol
fails to build against that. I was able to fix some errors by changing
import statements as follows.
1. Replace import org.jfree.chart.renderer.StandardXYItemRenderer with
org.jfree.chart.renderer.xy.StandardXYItemRenderer.
2. Replace import org.jfree.data.DefaultPieDataset with
org.jfree.data.general.DefaultPieDataset.

But I am not able to solve rest of the errors. I am pasting them here.
Any help in solving them is appreciated.

Debug information on windows

What is the correct way to log debug information using the windows service? I have tried changing the wrapper.config file from:

wrapper.logfile.loglevel=INFO

to:

wrapper.logfile.loglevel=DEBUG

and then restart the services, but this does not seem to affect the logging level.

Thank you for your reply. Inside /usr/share/ant/lib I have both
junit.jar and ant-junit.jar. I've specified this path with the -lib
flag, although it should already be in the path. I also tried
adding /usr/share/java with -lib, since that's where the .jar was
originally, with the same result.

I ended up finding somewhere on the internet a 2.8.3 binary release. I
don't think it's the official one, but it does contain the fixes for
some of the widgets and runs well on my machine. I would like to solve
this building problem, though.

Is junit library in same directory as ant-junit.jar. If it isn't then
you should either create a symlink or add the directory containing
junit.jar to the classpath as well (-lib option).

Looking at the build.xml it looks like a build property
test.skip(=true) should skip the unit tests.

has written an alternative logger implemention. There is no such
logger for the exec task.

The easiest solution is for you to create a simple Ant script that
then uses the <exec> task to call your real build script. Configure CC
to call this Ant script instead of the real script directly, and you
should get output displayed immediately.

Less than symbol?

I'm trying to import a MySQL script using the following:

<exec executable="mysql" dir="${basedir}/my/project">
<arg line=" -usomeuser -psomepassword mydb < /path/to/some.sql" />
</exec>

Ant, understandbly, complains about the less than symbol. Changing it to < doesn't work so what's the trick here?

Web interface with binary CC 2.8.2

I'm running cruisecontrol on a machine which seems to be using port 8000
for another process (I'm not sure, as I'm not the system admin). When I
try to run cruisecontrol, I get the "address already in use" error.
Specifying a JMX port, say 8888, fixes this problem. Cruisecontrol does
run when specifying port 8000 for JMX, however, and allows me to trigger
builds.

However, after switching to port 8888, I cannot trigger builds. I get
the error "Error communicating with build loop on:". I've also not ever
received useful build output information or build status updates, even
when using port 8000. I also get an error "Failed to reach dashboard
instance : http://<buildmachine>:8080/dashboard/buildloop/listener,
either the dashboard has not started up or there is a network problem."

I suspect all of this is tied together somehow, but I'm not sure. Thank
you for your help.

Dash board can not connect to build loop and cruisecontrol throws exception

I am using cruise control for first time. I use cruise control 2.8.2 to run my ant build file. It contains two part: 1. build and package, 2. run test
When it start to run tests, after about twenty minutes, cruise control dash board tells me: Unable to connect to build loop at vpabuild.
And if I change to http://host:8080/cruisecontrol page, click my page, it gives me the following exception. Is there any advice?

BTW: I just decompress the file cruisecontrol-bin-2.8.2.zip and run cruisecontrol.bat in the windows 2008 server command. Nothing changes except the time zone.

Failed to reach dashboard instance

I am getting a failed to reach dashboard instance error when CruiseControl starts up. It happens after the config file is loaded, the projects and BuildQueue started. We are using port 8082 for our webport. The reporting page and the dashboard are both unavailable.

This error message shows up every 5 seconds. Any idea what could be causing this?
