Hi guys!

Just started to use CC.rb today, and I like it. I have some questions though:

1. is CC.rb caching a plugin's source file somewhere? I'm asking this because I created a plugin, made some modifications to it, restarted the server, and I still saw the old code. If however, I close everything ( including the command prompt from where I started the cruise server ), it will load the right file. Is there other way to modify a plugin's code and see the modifications take place right away?

2. I wrote a plugin, but I'd like to be able to pass some config options to it, through Project's block. Is there a way to do this without relying on class variables? If I'd create an instance of a plugin, how could I pass it along to the project's list of plugins? Is something like this possible:

Project.configure do |proj|
 my_plugin = MyPlugin.new(options)
 proj.plugins << proj
end

Thanks!

SSH-fu is pretty basic stuff and outside the scope of this list.
However, it's really useful to know if you are a developer and/or
sysadmin.

Google for "ssh key tutorial" or similar, and look for a good page
which explains it in a way you can understand, and play around until
you understand it. Google for any error messages you don't
understand.

I'm new to Cruise
Control having just taken over a set of build servers which use it to build our
software on Windows and Ubuntu Linux.

I'm in the process
of making a couple of changes and have run in to a couple of problems which I
can't find an answer for in the documentation.

Cruise control
is running on a windows box. One of our projects is a build on Linux. Cruise
control SSH's in to the Linux server to perform the
build.

I've recently had to change the user and password for
the account it logs in to.

I've changed the line in the RB file to identify the
new user. this seems to be working fine apart from every time cruise control

1. There's currently no official way to get the dashboard to render
content generated by your test run, if that's what you mean, although
I've seen teams in the past that have modified the CCRB HTML templates
to do that. Do you just want the resulting content to be
pretty-printed as XML?

Yes

2. Likewise, you can modify the build_report.html.erb template to
include whichever pieces of the build you wish. Note that you have the
full Build object available to you at email render time. At the moment
EmailNotifier doesn't support more fine-grained template
specification, but you can subclass that plugin to do the right thing
if you need to support multiple templates.

3. Projects can be triggered by the successful completion of other
projects, as follows:

 project.triggered_by :some_other_project

You can set up an automatic deploy workflow by adding a project whose
build command is the command you typically use to deploy your app and
which is triggered by the successful completion of the first build.
Does that help?

Yes it does, thank you. :)

Chad,
I'm running ccrb and ant in Windows XP Pro, and the return code ('echo %ERRORLEVEL%') is zero when ant script return success and non-zero when it return build failed, but always the cruisecontrolrb message is success.

That is... odd - I'm putting it mildly. Never heard of a bug like that before. If you can figure the cause, and it turns out to be CC.rb's fault, I promise to fix it.

I try to run cruisecontrolrb and ant in Ubuntu Linux 9.04. When I write in command line "~/sudo ruby cruise build myproject", the cruisecontrol get the correct error code (zero or non-zero), but when I run the command "~/sudo ruby cruise start", I recieve the message:
./lib/cruise_control/../
platform.rb:69:in `exec': Permission denied - lib/cruise_control/../../script/../config/../cruise build myproject (Errno::EACCES)
from ./lib/cruise_control/../platform.rb:69:in `safely_exec'
> Hi,
> I new in this list of users and I want to use cruisecontrol.rb with ant. My
> problem is that the return message of ant is "BUILD FAILED", but the message
> of cruisecontrol is "Build 17251.5 finished SUCCESSFULLY". In my projetct, I
> write the cruise_config.rb "project.build_command = 'ant -buildfile
> ./build/Teste.xml'".

If you run your ant command from the command line, what is the value
of the return code 'echo $?' If it is zero, can you alter your build
command to print it out? Maybe it is behaving differently under the
ccrb environment.

You can also try it with a dummy ant script that just succeeds or
fails, and see if you get a different behavior.

As far as I remember metrics:all runs rcov to calculate test coverage,
so you don't have to run tests again. But to have a separate interval
for tests and metrics you have to configure two separate builders with
two separate work directories and schedulers.

You can also try it with a dummy ant script that just succeeds or

Hi Phillipp,

The recommended way to do this is to have separate configuration
options based on the name you created the project with. See, for
example:

http://cruisecontrolrb.thoughtworks.com/documentation/manual#project_builder_configuration

Note that this requires you to have two projects configured, one as
your conventional CI project and another project purely for running
metrics. Add the second project using the cruise add command, like you
added the original.

Best of luck, and let us know if this works out for you.
