Hi Menno,

I think this is expected behavior as using cmask in that project is
part of generating the CSD. So I don't think blue is trying to run
the project with Csound, just doing what it needs for the CSD.

Hello STeven,

i just discovered something strange when trying to generate a blue file to screen. I get:

There was an score generation error in the soundObject:

Type: PolyObjectName: root
Start Time: 0

Cause:
Error in SoundLayer: Track 1
Layer Number: 1

Cause:
There was an score generation error in the soundObject:

Type: ExternalName: AED-SF-Granulator
Start Time: 0

Details:
External SoundObject Score Generation Error

Unable to execute the command: /usr/local/bin/cmask $infile $outfile

Please check that the command is either in your path
or that the absolute path specified is correct.

Cause:
Cannot run program "/usr/local/bin/cmask" (in directory "/home/menno/downloads"): java.io.IOException: error=2, Bestand of map bestaat niet

the latest line is of course correct because i do not have cmask installed. But i do not understand why Blue wants to run the blue file. Should it not just generate a csd for csound to run?
Also trying to save to csd results in a file.
Other files that do run in blue can succesfully be generated.

New Beta Posted

Hi All,

I've placed a new 2.0.0 beta at:

This has Revert implemented, some look and feel fixes, fixes for
missing icon images, html manual and a fix for
ObjectBuilder/BlueSynthBuilder/Effects for slider banks not cleaning
up correctly causing them to be unusable after editing the first
object.

I still have a few small fixes left on my list and mainly have to
update the manual left for 2.0.0.

I found the same issue with the manual and fixed it this week. I'll
post a build later tonight when I get home. Also, thanks for
discovering the missing revert functionality! I will add that before
doing the build and will have it in tonight.

Hi Steven,

i'm trying to find my way back to Linux. I'm using UbuntuStudio, Csound 5.10, Python 2.6.
A report from this system:
- In bLue2 when i activate the csound manual i see the page in black and have to Ctrl+A to see the text. Changing the theme of UbuntuStudio does not solve this
- i miss the Revert function under File.

New/retuned piece: Elegy, for Jon

"Elegy, for Jon" is a JI retuning/rearrangement of a piece called "Solar
Midnight" from Complex Silence 4 (which used a non-rational Phi-based
tuning). Unbeknownst to me, I finished it on the day that my closest
friend Jonathan Gams passed away, and it is offered in his memory.

Made with Csound and blue using Kraig Grady's Centaur tuning.

Hi Jan Jacob,

That's strange about UDO Library. The file itself should be in your
.blue folder, I think on OSX something like /Users/janJacob/.blue. I
would check that folder for the udo library xml file and look to see
if there is one with ~ at the end. You can try seeing if the original
xml file looks strange or can try replacing the original one with the
one with ~. (make backups!). You can also email me copies of files
off-list and I can try to take a look to see what is wrong with them.

xml-Library broken?

Dear Steven,

now it looks like my UDO-Library is broken: Starting blue in version
1.25 or opening the UDO-Window in version 2.0 results in the same
error message, saying that I should fix Udo.Libary.xml and then
restart. But how can i fix this file and what did I do to spoil it?
The days before my UDO-collection appeared in both versions of blue
the same way...

Thanks for notifying about this! I think I have it fixed up. I put
up a new build that should fix up issues with JMask's interface, has a
couple of small fixes, and now has the manual (it's the old manual for
0.125.0 but I got the build working for the HTML and PDF and have it
automated as part of the zip build now).

now I can start blue! All I finally did is downloading the zip-fie
again. I noticed that the size of the file is slightly larger now. I
was able to start blue from terminal by command line. Now I can start
testing- looks great!

I rarely use dac and adc together so I'm not sure how to best
implement something like this. If you and others can make a
recommendation with ideas for UI, I'll be happy to implement it.

works Steven. Thanks for your quick repairs.
all my dacs and adc's are correctly detected now, as are the different midiports. At the moment i can not test the midiports but i will get back to you soon with another report.
Another thing that comes to mind right now is concerning the delicate balance that exists when wanting to use the dac AND the adc at the same time. There has to be some kind of right balance between ins and outs and the buffers size for csound to run smoothly? Maybe when the dac and adc are ticked in this window there could be created a list with advices of several buffersettings. I believe there is a formula for that somewhere in the csound manual. Well, just a quick random thought, antoher feature perhaps for Blue...

The MIDI output was a bug that I fixed. You should be able to delete
that text and save the options and it should save correctly now.

As for output options, I have reproduced the error here. I'll take a
look at it shortly. For the time being, you should be able to just
type in dac5.

i'm using the beta version of 2 november but there is something definetly wrong here.
When i real-time render a thing that worked a week ago now i get no sound. The output of Csound tells me it renders ok and '1760 4096-byte soundblks of shorts written to D:\csound\Output\adc5 (WAV)'. adc5? i want it to go to dac5. However i checked the WAV, thereś no .wav extension but it is a wav file nonetheless that sounds fine.
Checking the Blue Options portaudio is on but for Audio Out i cannot see DAC, only ADC. And in the Midi Output - that is not activated- i seesome javacode, but not the midi port.
What can be the cause of this you think?

Hi Jan Jacob,

Could you try unzipping the blue_2.0.0_beta.zip to
/Users/janjacobhofmann directory and try running it from there instead
of /Applications? I wonder if there is an issue with permissions and
running it from there.

Otherwise, this is difficult for me to diagnose without access to a
10.4 machine. Note: I just tried on a 10.5 machine by unzipping onto
the desktop and running ./blue in the blue/bin directory within a
command prompt and that worked.

Dear Steven, dear list,

thanks for all the replies regarding my problem to start up blue on my MacOS machine. I use OSX 10.4 on an intel macbook. I tried to change the ending to blue.cmd but without result. I tried to change the programme to open that file to "Terminal", but in the list of suggested programmes "Terminal" is not active, so I could not set it to open that file regularly. Dragging and dropping the file onto the icon of Terminal did not work either. Then I dragged the file onto the Terminal window and dropped it. The path to the file appeared on the window. Then I pressed "return". Not blue, but an empty netbeans window appeared. Here is the output of the Terminal-window below, maybe someone can see, what I did wrong.

computers I have access to I don't have Administrator priveleges on
which has complicated things. However, the zip file does work on OSX.
You can run the blue\bin\blue file to start blue up. It will not be
as nicely integrated as the OSX build should be, but that does not
differ much than what is in blue 0.125.0 so that should be fine. I'd
love to get your feedback!

What version of OSX are you using? I only had a chance to try on Snow
Leopard. Also, one thing you could try is renaming the blue script to
blue.cmd .

Hi Jan Jacob,

I have not had much time to continue work on the OSX build and the
computers I have access to I don't have Administrator priveleges on
which has complicated things. However, the zip file does work on OSX.
You can run the blue\bin\blue file to start blue up. It will not be
as nicely integrated as the OSX build should be, but that does not
differ much than what is in blue 0.125.0 so that should be fine. I'd
love to get your feedback!

I'd like to join in to help and do some testing. I wonder if this new beta is suitable for Mac. Should I take it or should I wait until there is an easier install-process for Mac OSX?

Hello Steven,
a small report of my experience of using the latest alfa:
the production of invisible text has been solved, it works fine now.
Also i de-activated the use of the API and there were no more crashes. But i notice from time to time while playing a score and pressing F9 that a Csound error is produced. By looking at the Csound Output Monologue i see that it just stops printing but gives no error messages.
Perhaps Csound 5.11 is more buggy?
For now i keep on evaluating. this release...
