A bit of a follow up:
As noone really seemed to bother, I went on to see what was required to
get to a current OpenSwan release. I built modules and userland for
OpenSwan 2.4.1ยง5 for the kernels 2.4.34 and 2.4.34.6 and at least they
did not crash when invoked.
