I’ve built the Windows version of GPSBabel from source and I end up with a dependency to the libpatexw.dll but when I downloaded the new zipped beta from the gpsbabel website, it’s dependency is on libpatex.dll (which I think is normal).  What am I doing wrong to cause it to end up with a different dll dependency?  I am using the defined msvc projects in the source tree and have added the missing .c files, but have no other changes.   What do I need to do to get it to use the proper dependency

It's not only the destination, but also the path you take and the friends you make along the way.

Hi Steve,
It looks like you may have opened the GPSBabel-msvc7.vcproj file
directly, rather than either GPSBabel.sln or GPSBabel-msvc7.sln, which
(oddly) both use GPSBabel.vcproj. It looks like the MSVC files are a
bit of a mess. Starting fresh using GPSBabel.sln may help.

I agree.

Anyone familiar with the current state of MSVC [6-8] and Visual Express 200[5,8]and whatever else matters in this corner of the market that would like to take a swing at cleaning things up would get my encouragement.   I use those tools only under duress and don't really know what's used by what version.

They suffer from decay just because we have few Windows developers on the list.    I came close to deleting them all then starting over in VE 2008.
