DVB-T: The "channel.dvb" bug

The channel search of kaffeine 0.8.6 (KDE 3.5.9) does not find all
channels (of the german DVB-T).

A programmer wrote a script to make it easy to create a channels.dvb
which contains all channels of the specific region.

http://lab.infodatei.de/conf2dvb/

The list, which has been created by that script really shows all
available channels in kaffeine but ...
the EPF, the electronic program guide does not work anymore.

With the incomplete channel list which is created by kaffeine the
electronic program guide works.

So we have a dilemma.

The user has to choose inbetween to bad cases:
1 incomplete list but working electronic program guide
2 complete list but no electronic program guide at all

May be someone of you knows a way out of that dilemma or likes to fix
the bug in kaffeine.
It would make me happy :)

What does not work with kaffeine scan? That is which channels aren't found, on
which frequencies? If you can provide more informations, maybe it could be
fixed, cause here it works fine.

It does not find all channels.

Sorry. I don't what you mean.

I installed kaffeine with the package manager of Kubuntu 8.04.

Than I started "Menu DVB > Channels > Start scan".

Which file do you need please?

menu->DVB->DVB_settings

Here you can choose a so called "Source" for your location.
In your case, i guess it's set to AUTO, and in AUTO mode kaffeine won't find
vhf channels.
Try to find a Source for your location in the list.

Thanks a lot for that hint. :)

It is true. The setting was AUTO (default).

After I set it to "DE-BERLIN", Kaffeine finds all channels and with
that entries the EPF works.

If I could help to investigate, why Kaffeine could not find the right
source in the AUTO mode, please let me know.



May I ask one question about a dual receiver?
I could not find information about that theme until now.

I use a DVB-T pci card Hauppauge "Nova T Dual".

Both receivers are shown in the configuration of Kaffeine:

Can Kaffeine use both receivers at the same time?
Example
1 Show with receiver A, record with B
2 Show with A and show with B
3 Record with A and record with B

you can show only one channel at a time :)

you can even record several channels that are on the same frequency.
and you can have more than two devices.
Kaffeine handles any number of devices of any type
(satellite,cable,terrestrial)

Hhmm.
When I start "instant recording" while channel A is active and than I
change to Channel B (to view it), is that all I have to do?
I ask because I cannot find a switch like "Menu Receiver > A/B".

Oh, I hoped there is a way to split the window into two panes and show
two channels at once.

Oh, that is really a surprise. Great. :)

Both receivers use the same "channels.dvb", isn't it?

Do you expect for future versions to offer a splitted window to show
two channels at once?

May be I still do not understand the interaction concept of the GUI.

I start an instant recording with channel 3, than I choose channel 7
in the channel list (11 channels in totally exist) and start instant
recording as well.
Both channels are recorded. Fine.

But the visible channels of the channels is reduced to 5 channels
after the start of the second recording. Feature or bug?

Than I stopped recording with the button "stop".
Recording of channel 7 stopped as expected.

Now I like to stop channel 3.
But I did not find a way in the GUI.

Suggestion:
A little pane in the main window would be nice to display, what is
recorded at the moment. What do you think?

Feature, Kaffeine let you know what you can still watch/record.
I suggest that you google for "multiplexing".

What a nice feature! Never heard of it.

That means, that I can record two channels and watch a third.
With only two receivers.
