The Journal Future Generation Computer Systems invites authors to submit papers for the Special Issue on Using the Open Provenance Model to Address Interoperability Challenges. This special issue follows the Provenance Challenge 3 workshop on the same topic, but is open also to contributions by teams that were not represented at the workshop.

(1) Background
Data products are increasingly being produced and mashed-up by the composition of services and data supplied by multiple parties using a variety of databases, data analysis, management, and collection technologies. This approach is particular evident in e-Science where scientists combine sensor data and shared Web-accessible databases using a variety of local and remote data analysis routines to produce experimental results, which they published and get reused by other scientists. In such environments, provenance (also referred to as audit trail, lineage, and pedigree) plays a critical role as it enables users to understand, verify, reproduce, and ascertain the quality of data products.

An important challenge in the context of these compositional applications is how to integrate the provenance data produced by different systems to be able to construct the full provenance of complex data products across the different systems involved in their derivation. To that end, a common data model for provenance, the Open Provenance Model (OPM), was proposed to help ease the integration of provenance data across the heterogeneous environments used for running such applications.

To evaluate the suitability of OPMand gain practical experience with interoperability issues related to provenance across heterogeneous systems, 14 teams from across the world have participated in the Third Provenance Challenge since March 2nd. During this challenge, teams have exchanged provenance data between their provenance systems using OPM. They have developed OPM serializations in both RDF and XML, ran provenance queries over the exchanged data, and began to create common tools for use with OPM.

(2) Topics
The aim of the special issue is to provide an archival view of the state-of-the-art of both practical and theoretical issues related to provenance interoperability across systems using the Open Provenance Model.

We therefore encourage submissions in the following areas:
* Theoretical considerations pertaining to the Open Provenance Model
* Semantic inter-operability with the Open Provenance Model
* System issues and OPM (incl, integration, performance, storage)
* Provenance models and comparisons with OPM
* Real applications making use of OPM; usability of provenance
* Open Provenance Model and databases
* Domain specific specialisations of the Open Provenance Model
* Query languages for OPM
* Interoperable queries over the Open Provenance Model
* Provenance tools that use OPM

(3) Instructions to the authors
Two types of submissions are permitted:
* short papers should have a maximum length of 6 pages, whereas
* long papers should be limited to 12 pages.

Call for Papers: Special Issue on Trends in service chaining for GEOSS themes
International Journal of Applied Geospatial Research (IJAGR)

The Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) is an international initiative that provides decision-support tools and operational access to Earth observation data and geospatial content, serving a wide variety of users. GEOSS will proactively link together existing and planned observation systems around the world and support the development of new systems where gaps currently exist, promoting also common technical standards in a manner that data from thousands of different instruments can be combined into coherent data sets.

Multiple and challenging research issues have to be addressed to achieve this goal, including for example: mediating among different models for representing information, developing new techniques for integrating and composing geospatial services and components, and devising innovative methods for distributed geoprocessing services that use service-oriented architectures for accessing the huge volume of sensors, satellite imagery and spatial data.

Papers of interest for this special issue should discuss different models, techniques and tools addressing the above issues to improve service chaining and integration, as well as highlight relevant practical project experiences and applications applied to Earth Observation to improve decision making in any theme of GEOSS (disasters, health, energy, climate, water, weather, ecosystems, agriculture, and biodiversity).

This special issue shall covers interdisciplinary topics among service chaining, Semantic Web, and the geospatial domain. These include, but are not limited to:
Service integration
Geoprocessing
Web Services for Grids
Services for data model integration/schema mapping
Methodologies for scalable service chaining
Methodologies for reusing service chains
Frameworks for Building Web Service-Based Applications
Service orchestration
Semantic service chaining
Service applications in GEOSS themes

We solicit contributions to tackle the above mentioned challenges, highlighting on novel applications in any GEOSS themes with the potential to push service chaining in practice.

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers between 5000 and 8000 words for this special theme issue on Trends in service chaining for GEOSS themes on or before 15 November 2009. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. Currently a number of institutions across the countries are working to evolve better models to provide collaborative technology services for scholarship by creating shared cyberspace thro expert collaboration, but this is a challenge for the institutions for a number of reasons. In the last few years, the landscape of digital technology applications projects for the various disciplines in humanities, social sciences, and sciences appears induced by many initiatives. For the creation of research clusters, the research community has thousands of databases, websites, local computing clusters, and web-based tools around individual themes, interests and projects. Logics provide a formal basis and key descriptive notation for the study and
development of applications and systems in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
With the depth and maturity of formalisms, methodologies, and systems today,
such logics are increasingly important. The European Conference on Logics in
Artificial Intelligence (or Journées Européennes sur la Logique en Intelligence
Artificielle --- JELIA) began back in 1988, as a workshop, in response to
the need for a European forum for the discussion of emerging work in this
field. Since then, JELIA has been organised biennially, with English as
the official language, and with proceedings published in Springer-Verlag's
Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series. In 2010 the conference is
organized for the first time in Scandinavia, following previous meetings
mainly taking place in Central and Southern Europe (see the general website
http://www.jelia.eu/ for details). The increasing interest in this forum,
its international level with growing participation from researchers outside
Europe, and the overall technical quality, has turned JELIA into a major
biennial forum for the discussion of logic-based approaches to AI.

Aims and Scope

The aim of JELIA 2010 is to bring together active researchers interested in
all aspects concerning the use of logics in Artificial Intelligence
to discuss current research, results, problems, and applications of both
theoretical and practical nature. JELIA strives to foster links and
facilitate cross-fertilisation of ideas among researchers from
various disciplines, among researchers from academia and industry,
and between theoreticians and practitioners.

Paper Submission
================
Proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes on
Artificial Intelligence series. Papers should be written in English,
and should be formatted according to the standard Springer LNCS style.
All submissions must be received by 23:59 GMT on May 3, 2010 (abstract)
and May 7, 2010 (full paper), and should be electronically submitted
via the link available on the JELIA 2010 web page.

There are two categories for submissions:

A. Regular papers
Submissions should not exceed 13 pages including figures, references, etc.,
and should contain original research, and sufficient detail to assess
the merits and relevance of the contribution. Submissions must not have
been previously published or be simultaneously submitted for publication
elsewhere.

B. System descriptions
Submissions should not exceed 4 pages, and should describe an implemented
system and its application area(s). A demonstration is expected to
accompany a system presentation. Papers describing systems that have
already been presented in JELIA before will be accepted only if significant
and clear enhancements to the system are reported and implemented.

Venue
=====
The conference will be held in the main building of University of
Helsinki, located in the center of Helsinki. Founded in 1550, Helsinki
has been the Finnish capital since 1812, when it was rebuilt in the
Empire style by the orders of the Czar of Russia, hence sharing
architectural similarities with St. Petersburg even today. Located on
the Baltic peninsula centrally between the east and the west, Helsinki
"the Daughter of the Baltic" is a city full of contrasts: light and
white in summer while dark but full of warmth in winter, with a
combination of high-tech, contemporary design, and ever-present nature.
Finnish design has made Helsinki world famous, and recently Helsinki
was appointed World Design Capital 2012.

Full papers should not exceed 12 pages in the Springer LNCS style. Paper

Second call for papers for a
JWS special issue on Semantic Search

Yong Yu and Rudi Studer are editing a special issue of the Journal of Web
Semantics on "Semantic Search" that will appear in the summer 2010.

Semantic technologies, namely expressive ontology and resource description
languages, scalable repositories, reasoning engines and information
extraction techniques are now in a mature state such that they can be
applied to enable a higher level of semantic underpinning in real-world
Information Retrieval (IR) systems. This application of semantic
technologies to IR tasks is typically referred to as Semantic Search.
Challenges on this way include (i) identifying tasks and paradigms for
semantic search systems, (ii) devising expressive annotation frameworks as
well as scalable algorithms and infrastructures, (iii) investigating
innovative query paradigms for semantic search systems, and (iv) applying
machine learning and information extraction techniques in the context of
semantic search.

This special issue shall covers interdisciplinary topics between Semantic
Web and search. These include but are not limited to:

. Information retrieval tasks on the Semantic Web
. Incentives and interaction paradigms for resource annotation
. Interaction paradigms for semantic search
. Semantic technologies for query interpretation, refinement and
routing
. Modeling expressive resource descriptions

. Standard datasets and benchmarks for semantic search

We solicit contributions to tackle the above mentioned challenges, as well
as reports on novel applications with the potential to push semantic search
practical.

Submission guidelines
The Journal of Web Semantics solicits original scientific contributions of
high quality. Following the overall mission of the journal, we emphasize the
publication of papers that combine theories, methods and experiments from
different subject areas in order to deliver innovative semantic methods and
applications. The publication of large-scale experiments and their analysis
is also encouraged to clearly illustrate scenarios and methods that
introduce semantics into existing Web interfaces, contents and services.
Submission of your manuscript is welcome provided that it, or any
translation of it, has not been copyrighted or published and is not being
submitted for publication elsewhere. Upon acceptance of an article, the
author(s) will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the
publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of
information. Manuscripts should be prepared for publication in accordance
with instructions given in the JWS Guide for Authors. The submission and
review process will be carried out using Elsevier's Web-based EES system.

Knowledge management (KM) has been proven to be a key to service excellence and success in traditional service industries. The global economy and enterprises are evolving to become service-oriented, and many new e-services are emerging. To address the growing complexity of the service sector at the Age of Information and Communication, traditional KM research and practices have to be extended and adapted, particularly aiming at effective learning, application, and management of new knowledge. On the other hand, the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) provides new opportunities and challenges for knowledge and learning processes, such as integration and outsourcing.

One key source of knowledge comes from Business intelligence (BI) while knowledge provides the basis of further analysis for intelligence. BI is evolving: from the traditional data-and-analysis exercise for supporting management decisions to an integral part of business processes, providing analytics for a wide range of users across organizations. In this end, we merge SOKM with the International Workshop on Business Intelligence Methodologies and Applications (BIMA), in order to form a stronger forum with more participation and cross-disciplinary work.

Today the creation, operation, and evolution of such research and practice raise concerns that range from high-level requirements and policy modeling through to the deployment of specific implementation technologies and paradigms, and involve a wide (and ever-growing) range of methodologies, tools, and technologies. They also cover a broad spectrum of vertical domains, industry segments, government and public services, from electronic and mobile commerce to real-time applications for extended enterprises and virtual communities. SOKM intentionally seeks scientists, engineers, educators, solution developers, policy makers, management, analysts, and others who have insight, vision, and understanding of the big challenges in Service Oriented Knowledge Management.

Scientific portals and gateways are important components of many large-scale Earth Science projects. Through user-friendly web interfaces integrated into the same environment, researchers and scientists can securely and transparently access to computational and data sources, services, tools, sensors, etc. Scientific portals and gateways are able to provide a community-centric view, workflow/dataflow services and a strong support in accessing to the cyberinfrastructure including grid and cloud based resources. In the Earth Science context, scientific gateways play a key role since they allow scientists to transparently access to distributed data repositories (across several domains and institutions), metadata sources, carry out search & discovery activities, as well as visualization and analysis ones, etc.
Finally, Scientific Gateways can play an important role for training students (at the academic level) in the ES disciplines, attract new users and representing a relevant centralized knowledge repository in the ES context.

This session will be related, among the others, to the following topics:

Introduction
Grid computing is the next generation information technology infrastructure that promises to transform the way organizations and individuals compute, communicate and collaborate. Grid computing is an evolution of distributed computing and it refers to a large-scale high-performance computing which combines distributed heterogeneous computing resources and the result is a unique large virtual supercomputer with a vast amount of shared processing power and data storage. Considering the enormous amount of these underutilized computing resources, the necessity of a grid infrastructure is compulsory. A computational grid provides access to users who want to utilize the shared processing resources in order to efficiently apply high throughput applications on distributed machines. The second most common shared resource used in a grid is data storage and it is known as data grid. This type of grid provides distributed storage capacity such as attached memory to the processor, hard d!
isk drives or other types of permanent storage. Grid computing can assist grid users in order to utilize to the maximum computing resources by applying tasks and solving a scientific or technical problem that requires a great number of computer processing cycles or the need to process large amounts of data.

Objective of the Book
This book aims to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and will cover the latest empirical research findings in the area of grid computing. The goal of this book is to represent theoretical frameworks, methodologies, implementations, and cutting edge research findings with a critical perspective bridging the gap between academia and the latest achievements of the computer industry. It will be written for professionals, as well as students, who are involved or interested in the study, use, design, and development of grid computing and want to improve and empower their understanding of it. Also, this book aims to help researchers and developers understand the basics of the field, to highlight the various developments over the years in the field by giving an in depth analysis of grid networks.

Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals, engineers, researchers and students who are interested and working in the field of grid computing. Moreover, the book will provide insights and can serve as both literature at an undergraduate level and as an overview of the area.

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 30, 2009, a 1-2 page chapter clearly explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. We also highly encourage early full chapter submissions. Please include the title of the book in the subject line of your e-mail. Authors will be notified by January 15, 2010 about the status of their proposals and will be sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by March 31, 2010 or earlier.

All submitted chapters must not have been published elsewhere and will undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two referees. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Embedded computing systems enable highly optimized special-purpose
services, such as pattern recognition (PR), provided by host devices.
PR in embedded systems is one of the foremost examples of AI-based
expert systems that have converted from theoretical studies to practical
solutions in real-life applications. The spectrum of PR in embedded
systems is vast. Recognized objects and events can be synthetic or
biologic. Deployed methods can be analytical or statistical, programmed
or hardwired, digital or analogue, supervised or unsupervised, etc.
User interaction with such systems can be optical, phonetic, tactile or
based on other kinds of sensors. Often, multiple modes of interaction
and input data processing are provided by embedded PR systems. The
diversity of aspects of interaction, multimodality and embedding of PR
will receive special attention in the focus of IMPRESS. The workshop aims
to raise awareness of, and foster the increasing importance of PR in
Embedded Systems. IMPRESS provides a forum for presenting and discussing
the state of the art, as well as on-going r & d and innovative system
features in the field.

We are calling for papers presenting original research results, innovative
ideas, work in progress, industrial experience, case studies or position
statements. In particular, we welcome submissions that highlight aspects

Papers offering novel research contributions in all aspects of access control are solicited for submission to the ACM Symposium on Access Control Models and Technologies (SACMAT). SACMAT 2010 is the fifteenth of a successful series of symposiums that continue the tradition, first established by the ACM Workshop on Role-Based Access Control, of being the premier forum for presentation of research results and experience reports on leading edge issues of access control, including models, systems, applications, and theory. Papers must be written in English. We require that the authors use the ACM format for papers, using one of the ACM SIG Proceeding Templates (http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html). The length of the paper in the proceedings format should not exceed ten US letter pages, excluding well-marked appendices. Committee members are not required to read the appendices, so papers must be intelligible without them. Papers are to be submitted electronically as a single PDF file, formatted for 8.5" X 11" paper, and no more than 5MB in size. It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that their submission will print easily on simple default configurations.

The submission MUST be anonymous, with no author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or obvious references. Further submission details will be available on-line.

All submissions MUST reflect original work and MUST adequately document any overlap with previously published or simultaneously submitted papers from any of the authors. Failure to do so will lead to automatic rejection. In particular, simultaneous submission of the same paper to another conference or journal venue is not allowed. AIMS, SCOPE AND TOPICS

In our society which has already turned to a service providing society, the technical aspects as well as the human, social and economic aspects must be considered together. This has already resulted in considerable research on these aspects that are related to disciplines like Information Systems, Software Engineering and Service Science, as for example, how empirical research should be conducted, what are the conditions for "valid" knowledge, and which the scope of theories in these fields are. These are elements that are of interest from perspectives as diverse as philosophy, engineering and technology.
For example, the material and temporal entities that are dealt with in the field are a matter of ontology, and the conditions for credibility of statements and research methods are a matter of epistemology. Hence the relationship and influences between software, information systems and service science will be studied from an ontological view point, but with a broad perspective under which researchers with different background can meet and truly multi-disciplinary issues can arise.

As in the previous editions the main goal of this event is to allow challenging and promising cross-fertilization over multidisciplinary research areas to be tackled and investigated by all the participants. The design of systems in which parts have complex interactions, more and more the understanding of theoretical, epistemological and conceptual frameworks coming from the human and social sciences.

Topics therefore include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Ontology and formal ontology representations of Software Engineering,
Systems Engineering, Service Engineering and Information Systems.
- Studies and essays about metrics, indicators and general issues regarding research on Software, Services and Systems Engineering.

Final call for Nominations:
The SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation Award

SIGMOD has established the annual SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation Award
to recognize excellent research by doctoral candidates in the database field.
This award, which was previously known as the SIGMOD Doctoral Dissertation Award,
was renamed in 2008 with the unanimous approval of ACM Council in honor of
Dr. Jim Gray.

SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation Award winners and runners-up will be
recognized at the SIGMOD conference, and their dissertations will be included
at SIGMOD DiSC and the SIGMOD Online web site. Winners of the award will also
receive a plaque and be given the opportunity to present his or her work together
with the winners of the SIGMOD Innovations and Test of Time awards.
They will also be invited to serve on an evaluation committee at least
once in the subsequent years.

Submitted dissertations must have been accepted by a university department
in any country during the previous year as detailed below.

Eligibility
Nominations are limited to one doctoral dissertation per department. Nominated
dissertations must be submitted by December 15 2009. Each submitted doctoral
dissertation must be on a topic within the scope of SIGMOD's mission, i.e.,
large scale data management. Each nominated dissertation must also have been
successfully defended by the candidate, and the final version of each nominated
dissertation must have been accepted by the candidate's department on or after
September 1 of the previous year (2008). An English-language version of the
dissertation must be submitted with the nomination. A dissertation can be
nominated for both the SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation Award and
the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award.

Selection Procedure
This is a two-phase process. In the first phase, nominated dissertations are
reviewed for novelty, technical depth and significance of research contribution,
potential impact on theory and practice, and quality of presentation. A committee
performs an initial screening to generate a short list, followed by an in-depth
evaluation by the award committee of the dissertations on the short list.
In the second phase, more in-depth discussion of the potential award-winning
dissertations will be held, and reviewers will provide justification for their
ranking. Evaluation and online discussion over a two-week period will
be done using the CMT system.

The award committee will inform the candidates about the result of the selection
by April 15 2010, to allow the three best candidates to be recognized at the SIGMOD
conference the same year. The name of the award recipient will only be publicly
announced after the dissertation award session.

The award committee shall consist of two co-chairs and five committee members serving
staggered three-year terms. A past award winner will be invited on a yearly basis
to join the committee as its eighth member. The co-chairs will take turn to chair
the process, and a committee member (including co-chair) who has a student as
a potential candidate in a given year will be excused from the evaluation that year.

Timeline (as a guideline only):

December 15 2009: Submission of thesis and supporting documents to CMT system
January 15 2010: Short list due
March 15 2010: Reviews/justifications/ranking due
March 15- April 5 2010: Online discussion
April 10 2010: Citations due
April 15 2010: Notification

Submission Procedure
All nomination materials must be in English, and must be submitted electronically
to the CMT system (https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/sigmodthesis2010) by December 15 2009.
Late submissions or resubmissions will not be considered. A nomination must include:

1. Title and abstract (limited to 5000 characters) of the thesis, entered directly
into the submission system.
2. A nomination letter, written by the dissertation advisor of the candidate. This
letter must include:
- the name, email address, mail address, and phone number of the advisor,
- the name, email address, and address of the candidate, and
- a summary of one or two pages of the significance of the dissertation
3. An endorsement letter signed by the department head.
4. A signed statement from the nominee, giving permission for the dissertation to appear
at SIGMOD DiSC and SIGMOD Online if the dissertation is selected as an award recipient.
5. One PDF copy of the doctoral dissertation.
6. Optionally, the nomination may include up to two supporting letters from other individuals,
discussing the significance of the dissertation. The writers of the supporting letters can
alternatively email their letters directly to the chairs of the award committee by the deadline.

Items 1-5 are compulsory - any missing item constitutes ground for rejection without
further consideration. Candidates may submit at most 3 zipped files: one for items 2-4,
one for the thesis, and one for item 6 (if any).

We are in the midst of an Internet computing revolution. One vision of
21st century computing is that users will access
Internet services and "resource-hungry" applications (e.g., gaming,
streaming media etc.) over lightweight portable devices
rather than through some descendant of the traditional desktop PCs. In
this context, distributing and processing
Internet-based data in an efficient and cost-effective manner is a
challenging issue in Internet technology.
Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) have emerged to address this challenge
by offering infrastructure and mechanisms
to deliver content and services in a scalable manner. Nevertheless,
modern applications do not just perform retrieval
or access operation on content, but also create, modify and manage
content, and actively place them at appropriate locations.
To deal with such new requirements, more general Content Networks (CNs)
are being introduced. Design and implementation of
robust and efficient CNs in large-scale computing environments demand
for the use of emerging paradigms and software
technologies, such as Peer-to-Peer, Grid and the latest IT trend Cloud
computing. The integration of these emerging
technologies in content delivery opens new perspectives in Internet
technologies, raising new issues in the architecture,
design and implementation of existing CDNs.

Areas of interest
CDN 2010 is intended as a forum for lively discussion of aggressively
innovative and potentially disruptive ideas
in all aspects of CDNs. The main theme of this full day workshop is
"Content Delivery in the Cloud".
CDN 2010 will capture new research trends and results in terms of
design, architecture,
and applications for content and service delivery in the Internet and
Clouds;
optimization for Cloud-based content delivery; and performance
measurement methodologies.
Position papers will be strongly favored.

WORKSHOP CONTEXT

Todays virtual worlds are mostly stand alone and not easily extended.
This workshop will explore component technologies that can be leveraged
to make a set of extensible virtual worlds. These extensible virtual
worlds will need to be secure, easy to build, easy to create applications
for, and easy to integrate with the physical world and with enterprise
IT systems. Several technologies are poised to contribute including gaming,
geographic information systems, Web technologies, artificial intelligence,
information retrieval, database management, cloud computing, service oriented
architectures and others. This workshop aims to bring together knowledgeable
international researchers and virtual world developers from areas that can
contribute to accelerating our understanding of 3D virtual world architectures
aimed at understanding the kinds of extensible 3D virtual world platforms that
will be needed in the next five years to construct a rich variety of
applications that 3D virtual worlds can make possible.

THEMES/TOPICS

Example themes for position papers could include: terminology,
requirements, examples, driving or killer apps, potential for standards,
and research challenges.

o Theme 1: Extensible Virtual World Architectures
- Extensible Architecture Services, plugins, mix-and-match subtracting
or adding features. Evolution as new capabilities are added.
- Scaling Virtual Worlds Many prims, many avatars, a hospital full of
equipment, a stadium full of people, Second Earth, tiny, cosmic.
Connecting enclaves that have different properties.
- Populating and Provisioning Virtual Worlds how can we rapidly populate
a large space by importing (or generating) terrain, buildings, and
objects? What GIS, CAD, and other standards should we build on? How can
we engage the community?

o Theme 2: Virtual World Applications
- Driving Applications Modeling Healthcare, Retail, Battlefields, Real
Estate, Museums, Archaeology Sites, etc
- VW Enterprise Apps or games How to layer them onto the core virtual
world architecture
- Planning and Workflows How to organize a collection of avatar bots to
cooperate to solve a problem in a virtual world
- Economies Modeling and trading systems in virtual worlds. Integrating
with real world currency systems.

o Theme 3: Integration with the Real World
- Mirror Worlds Tying the real and virtual world together. Using virtual
world as a command post. Rural telemedicine. Modeling supply chains.
Sensor networks and RFID.
- Smart Networked Objects What protocols are needed to make an ordinary
object smart and networked? Identity, messaging, API reflection, access
control, virtual model.
- Man-Machine Interface how can people communicate with smart networked
(real or virtual) objects or collections of them?

o Theme 4: Enhanced Capabilities
- VW Search Engines and Query Language Spatial queries, temporal
queries, etc
- Ontologies Adding ontologies to make virtual worlds semantic (by
analogy to the semantic web)
- Time Modeling past and future using virtual worlds
- Scoping When are virtual worlds appropriate, when are other modeling
technologies more appropriate, can these different modeling technologies
interoperate?
- Security Alternatives to simple access control, digital rights,
microlicensing, micropayments,
- Grief/Fraud Modeling systems and tools for identifying users creating
grief/fraud in the virtual world.

INSTRUCTIONS

The workshop will take place the week of March 29-April 2, 2010 as a series
of small group thematic discussions in Second Life at various SLURL venues
to be announced (avatar registration required). Each small group discussion
will focus on a theme and will last around 3 hours. A moderator will ask the
group a set of questions (available beforehand) and a scribe (volunteer from
the group) will record the meeting and summarize the discussion in a 2-3 page
brief that will be posted on the workshop homepage soon after that discussion.

To be invited to a session, you must write a 1-2 page position paper
(single-spaced, include position paper title, your name(s), your avatar name
(for registration), your contact information and affiliation, your time zone
for planning purposes, your virtual world credentials/experience, and your
views on some aspect of a topic see Themes/Topics). You may write
multiple position papers to be invited to different thematic discussions.
Position papers will be posted on the workshop homepage. Tiny groups will be
merged and big groups split to keep group size around 5-10 (some topics may
be covered by more than one group).

Accommodation will be made for longer research papers or presentations for
those who want to present recent results to a mid-sized audience. These
papers/presentations will be reviewed for relevance. Accepted papers/
presentations will be posted on the workshop homepage. During the workshop,
a schedule will be posted on the workshop homepage - the speaker will present
and attendance will be limited to around 50 avatars, first-come-first-served
from among registered participants.

Accommodation will also be made for additional themes or topics as suggested
by participants include a paragraph describing the scope of theme. Since
this workshop is focused on virtual world architectures, we are limiting
additional themes to that general area, not to also include general social
networking or cultural issues that do not focus on architectural aspects.

SECOND LIFE LOGISTICS

The workshop will take place in Second Life, a 3D virtual world. To
participate in the workshop, in addition to submitting a short or long paper,
you will need to become (somewhat) proficient in using Second Life. To get

date is 1 March 2010), we'll send you information on pre-workshop socials
inworld where you can meet other workshop attendees and practice communicating.
If you are presenting a long paper (using .ppt for a presentation), we will

Teradata is looking for a highly skilled Data Warehouse Lead Engineer with a proven track record of building end-to-end Data Warehouses. This is a technical leadership position with responsibility for leading projects that build and maintain our next generation Teradata Active Data Warehouse Environment in the Research and Development Facility.

This highly visible job requires significant interaction with product owners and management to define and implement an Active Data Warehouse environment that encompasses all stages of the Active Data Warehouse, including strategic decision support, advanced analytics, tactical decision support, and active, event driven decision support strategies. This includes corresponding logical and physical data models, as well as high availability and disaster recovery strategies. The successful candidate is passionate about data warehousing, has experience through all aspects of the Standard Development Life Cycle and can exploit existing and emerging Teradata technologies in the design and implementation of the Active Data Warehouse environment.

We are seeking a candidate who thinks strategically and acts tactically by laying out the technology vision and supporting day to day initiatives through thought leadership and collaboration throughout the R&D community. This is a technical team leadership position aligned in the Quality Engineering organization that is chartered with building and testing Teradata Active Warehouse solutions.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

* Provide overall technical architecture, design, development and test guidance for the team including ODS, DW model design, ETL/ELT architecture & design, BI solutions, and DW infrastructure
* Interface with business stakeholders/business analysts to gather DW requirements and translate business requirements into data needs
* Be hands-on individual contributor to design and develop data models, design and develop ETL/ELT as necessary
* Design and develop real-world use case scenarios for the warehouse that can be translated into test requirements.

Skills & Attributes:

* Ability to work effectively in a team environment and lead remote resources
* Superb oral/written communication skills
* Previous implementation experience of a large scale data warehouse
* 10 Year experience in Data Warehouse ETL/ELT Development
* 7 Years experience in Data Modeling for Data Warehouse
* 5 Years experience as Data Warehouse architect
* 3 years experience as Data Warehouse technical lead

Basic Qualifications:
* US Permanent Residence
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline
* Advanced knowledge of SQL including complex stored procedures, functions, query optimization, indexing strategy
* 10 years experience with overall DW infrastructure capacity planning and scaling
* Proven track record in delivering scalable and reliable DW solutions.
* Strong data modeling and dimensional modeling skills (including slowly changing dimensions)
* Experience with data quality and data profiling
* 10 years strong ELT design and development experience
* Working knowledge of Teradata database

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experienced in designing, building and maintaining 10+ TB DW systems a plus
* Experience with Java
* Experience with MPP-based Data warehouse platform is a plus.
* Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions is a plus
* Experience with BI tools is a plus
* Project Management experience a plus
* Teradata Implementation experience

The Workshop on Multimedia and Semantic Technologies (MUST'10) aims at high quality research contributions in multimedia semantic computing, with a focus on how to apply the semantic technologies to the acquisition, generation, storage, processing, and retrieval of large-scale multimedia information. A main goal of MUST is to address emerging research challenges in Semantic Multimedia and to help reducing the Semantic Gap between low-level content descriptions of multimedia and the semantics in high-level human interpretations of audiovisual media. Semantic Web and multimedia community researchers are encouraged to join the workshop to benefit from the presentation of results from multimedia based research, which demonstrate important multimedia applications which could be enhanced by Semantic Web technologies.
MUST'10 will be held in conjunction with FutureTech 2010, in Busan, Korea, 21-23 May 2010.

MUST'10 encourages a multidisciplinary perspective and welcomes papers that address challenges of multimedia in general or in the context of specific domains.
