Database lockedBefore I start my question, please understand that I have been using Troopmaster/Packmaster since 1994, DotNet since maybe 2004. I printed out the User Guide the day I started using Troopmaster ME.
I also try and search the Yahoo group postings before posting a question. Right now that function is not working for the group as Yahoo is migrating to a new method for searching posts. Now for my question - For the first time since using Troopmaster, we now have a locked database. Seems that someone was running a report and their computer hung. After waiting a looong time for the report to finish, the user forced Troopmaster to quit and now the database is locked. We just updated to the latest version 4.01d about 2 weeks ago. Any advise on unlocking the database would be very appreciated. Thanks, Karen |

RE: Database lockedI assume by locked you mean that when you try to download from DotNet the
database can not be downloaded and acts as if someone with write capability were logged in.. Is that true for the person who had the problem with slow response that seems to have caused the problem? Have they tried to log in and download? Has the database administrator tried the "Unlock Database" button on the "TroopMaster DotNet" page under the "File" menu? I am curious about what happened and how to correct the problem. Butler _____ From: TMTUG@... [mailto:TMTUG@...] On Behalf Of kthoman2005 Sent: Monday, June 01, 2009 8:28 PM To: TMTUG@... Re: Database lockedHi Karen,
Have your database administrator go into the DotNet Settings and click on the Unlock Database. This will force the unlock. --- In TMTUG@..., "kthoman2005" <kthoman2005@...> wrote: > > Before I start my question, please understand that I have been using Troopmaster/Packmaster since 1994, DotNet since maybe 2004. Re: Database lockedKaren,
This is a tough one - Troop master may think that there is still access to the database. Before doing anything, you will have to manually backup the database to another area before doing anything. Here is what the website says, but it is useless, of course. This can occur if the last user had difficulty uploading the web database or if he exited without unlocking the database. If you cannot get the database unlocked, you should have your database *ADMINISTRATOR* manually unlock the files using the *Unlock* button on the DotNet dialog. However, if all of your DotNet users are experiencing this same problem, then the files on the FTP site are probably damaged. If this case, you should have your database *ADMINISTRATOR* replace the damaged files by reinitializing the database from whichever computer has the most current data. My question is if you are able to get into the database itself, before attempting to sync to dot net? Re: Database lockedMatt,
I did read the FAQ on locked database and felt the same as you did. Tells me stuff but not good enough. > > Before doing anything, you will have to manually backup the database to > another area before doing anything. Re: Re: Database lockedK -
I am going to assume the data will be good if you are able to print troop/patrols rosters and they look normal in read only mode. Our roster looked good once and the Advancement was all messed up. We had someone using a different version....... I have no idea why Mark's version hung up on running a report. I have run reports until I'm blue in the face and never had a problem. |

Re: Re: Database lockedTroopmaster recommended that we first try checking and or unchecking the passive mode found under troopmaster.net. This did not work for us.
We had the same problem with the locked data base for a particular user. Keep this in mind if you unlock the data base the information that was put in when the database was locked will be lost. We were able to correct the problem with the use of the "unlock Database" found under in the troopmaster dotnet. ----- Original Message ----- From: kthoman2005 To: TMTUG@... Re: Database locked> I am the Administrator, and I get the "The database is locked by Mark."
> "Would you like to open the database in Read Only Mode?" The statement you made above is the key in my opinion - you need to have 'Mark' re-access the datebase. Have him log onto the system, it should ask him if he would like to continue using the data on his local drive - IF HE MADE any changes while he was in the system when it locked he should say YES. If he simply was running reports with no changes made, then he could choose the other option (Don't remember what it says.) Than have him log out of system. This will remove the lock and update the files on the 'TM server'. If this doesn't work, a call to TM is in order. Good Luck!! Sarah |

This will remove the lock and update the files on the 'TM server'. He tried logging back in after the forced quit and was not able to unlock it. He must have restarted his computer and was able to access the database this morning and unlocked it. I waiting to have someone look at the new advancement that was entered recently. Thanks! |
