Dave's Roller 5.0 statusI've been doing some weekend and evening work on Roller 5.0 to get it
ready for release. Ganesh and Tanuja did great work on the new Media Blogging features, but there were a couple of significant pieces missing such as data migration and I18N. I had hoped to finish that work during the summer, but life got in the way. Now I'm scrambling to wrap things up. I'll be speaking at ApacheCon US 2009 in November on the topic of What's New in Roller 5.0, so I'd really like to have a 5.0 release candidate ready by then. Just as a reminder, here's what's currently on the 5.0 feature list: Media Blogging Support Externalizable User Management OpenID Support Tag Data API OpenSearch OAuth for AtomPub see also -> http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/9aQB Except for Media Blogging, all of those features are complete. My plan is this. I'll do some more cleanup work on Media Blogging, which is the major new feature in 5.0, then, I'll address the issues below: ROL-1808 : Mention getRequestParamter() limitation in Template Guide ROL-1760 : Scheduled tasks do not run on Oracle (or other DBs with high precision timestamps) ROL-1724 : Bug in trunk AuthoritiesPopulator.java ROL-1304 : Set frontpage blog in Roller install page see also -> http://bit.ly/46w2ky Once I'm done with those, I'll cut an RC because those issues above are the only issues marked to be fixed for 5.0. I went through the issues and removed the fix-for 5.0 designation from all issues that have no person assigned to fix them. If there are other issues that you would like to have fixed in 5.0, or new features, then you are welcome to submit patches, volunteer to fix them and we can get them back on the list. Any comments or concerns about this? Thanks, Dave |

Re: Dave's Roller 5.0 statusThanks. Given the limited resources being devoted, I agree, and this probably a good idea for every release. I'm not sure how the fix-for-version is being set in the first place, but if it's by a developer rather than the filer, there is some potential loss of triage information in clearing it out. We should probably shoot out a message to the dev list as a last call to volunteer prior to clearing them: i.e. assign to yourself, submit a patch, or they will be cleared. I'll try to help, at very least with RC testing. Dave wrote: > I've been doing some weekend and evening work on Roller 5.0 to get it > ready for release. Re: Dave's Roller 5.0 statusHi,
I need some help with Apache roller blog application. I am not aware about technical details of comments.vm file (like how to compile it, which language its coded in, the full form of VM extension etc) so am unable to make following change. I need to remove the Name text field in the comments page (Where user puts his comments on any Blog), and take the user name from the logged in credentials. Please help me in this regard. Thanks And Regards, Ajay Chandravadiya. +919922500590. Dave <snoopdave@...> 09/21/2009 12:19 AM Please respond to dev@... Re: Dave's Roller 5.0 statusThe comments.vm file is interpreted at runtime and it is written in
the Apache Velocity Template Language. The $objects in comments.vm are defined in the Roller Template Author Guide. In Roller 4.0 we don't allow templates to know the currently logged in users name, so you won't be able to "take the user name from the logged in credentials" by modifying comments.vm. You'll have to make Java code changes and I'd have to do some research into old code to tell you more. In Roller 5.0 we'll have a $utils.getAuthenticatedUser() method which makes this type of thing easier to do. - Dave On Wed, Sep 23, 2009 at 3:57 AM, <Ajay.Chandravadiya@...> wrote: > > Hi, > I need some help with Apache roller blog application. > > I am not aware about technical details of comments.vm file (like how to > compile it, which language its coded in, the full form of VM extension > etc) so am unable to make following change. > > I need to remove the Name text field in the comments page (Where user puts > his comments on any Blog), and take the user name from the logged in > credentials. > > Please help me in this regard. > > > Thanks And Regards, > Ajay Chandravadiya. > +919922500590. > > > Dave <snoopdave@...> > > 09/21/2009 12:19 AM > > Please respond to > dev@... > To > dev@... > cc > Subject > Dave's Roller 5.0 status > > > > > I've been doing some weekend and evening work on Roller 5.0 to get it > ready for release.
