Hello, I could not find any language choice for English. The mentioned
URL opens a page merely in German. Isn't it so?

we did sent our application for the debian distributer list about 10 Days ago (we used the webform).

Since we did not get answer till now, i just wanted to ask politely whether everything is ok with our application (http://www.vianos.de/debian.html).

Please give us a short information if further details are needed, or if we did something wrong.

Marco is asking us to remove a Brazilian CD vendor called
"Distribuições Linux" (CC:ed), here is the
short-translated-version of his explanation:

* Bought full pack of CDs and choose registered mail as shipment
which adds R$ 6.00 to the total price.

* 20091124: payment confirmed.
* 20091126: email sent to Marco confirming that his order was
ready to be shipped.

* 20091202: contact with online support, spoke with Renan that
explained some problems with the site happened and assured
the order would be sent on the next day.

* 20091207: Marco spoke with Renan again, the vendor said the
order was shipped and the track number would be send by e-mail.

* 20091210: Marco tried to spoke with vendor, without success.

Marco believe such vendors don't deserve to be listed on our
website. At the bottom there is an email from the vendor
confirming the payment with an URL to the order details.

To Marco: todas as listas acima, exceto a debian-l10n-portuguese,

continue copiando a -l10n-portuguese, caso contrário, você pode

Pedido de exclusão de fornecedor

Peço aos administradores e responsáveis pelo site www.debian.com que na parte de fornecedores de Vendedores de Cds Debian

excluam o fornecedor Distribuições Linux.

O motivo para tanto é que eu estava a procura da distribuição completa do Debian, fui ao site oficial do Debian e lá encontrei

o fornecedor já mencionado, fiz o pedido no site do fornecedor no dia 20/11/2009, paguei com a opção de entrega por carta registrada

que é acrescido R$ 6,00 ao valor do produto.

Meu pagamento foi confirmado no dia 24/11/2009 e no dia 26/11/2009 recebi o e-mail de produto separado e embalado.

Eu consegui contato no dia 02/12/2009 via atendimento Online que existe no site e falei com o Renan e o mesmo me disse

que houve vários problemas no site e me garantiu que seria enviado no dia seguinte.

Na segunda-feira dia 07/12/2009, consegui falar novamente com o Renan e o mesmo me disse que já havia enviado e me passaria

o nr de ratreio por e-mail, e agora há pouco iniciei uma conversa com ele no mesmo atendimento Online e ao me identificar ele não respondeu

e colocou o atendimento em OFFLINE.

Portanto um fornecedor que faz isso, não merece receber indicações da Debian, pois mancha o nome de uma instituição séria.

Também tomarei outras providências cabíveis.

Would it be to much to ask to replace the single "amd64" with "amd64 /
Intel EM64-T" (or however it's called) on the webpages? That might
reduce the "your ia64 image doesn't boot on my intel box" complaints.

I have no powerpc in my sources.list, and package names don't carry
powerpc for me neither.

On the other hand, enabling users to learn isn't a bad thing in itself.
If it is additional, we shouldn't depend too much on educating our users
- offering it is enough.

One suggestion that is pretty easy to implement and also should be
helpful straight ahead: Why not make amd64 and i386 appear in *bold*
letters? That way they stand out and people are more likely to
recoginize and choose them. Ordering and discussions on renaming one way
or another might confuse, having it clearly standing out is a concept
that everyone should easy be able to understand.

You can afterwards continue to discuss wether allcaps or lowercase or
the arch part from the package filename is the best option. ;)

Changing things this way still does not make it fit in the current layout
of the page and will still reduce readability (IMO).

Also, making this change *only* for the image links is IMO not a good idea
because it just introduces yet another identification for architectures.
We already use too many different names and descriptions in different
places.

Because that is what they see/need when they look at the sources.list or
package names?

I would prefer a full redesign over just changing the layout. The current
pages are problematic exactly because they try to fit everything on a
single page and thus allow little room for explanation.
But OTOH that's also their great strength for users who *do* know what they
want, so solving the issue by linking to separate page(s) that add a good
explanation of what's what is still an option too.

An alternative could be to have a single page per release per architecture.
Such pages would allow for much more information about the architecture
(including links to related architectures) and more information about the
different images.

I hadn't realised that Simon had made this change. That was the whole
_point_. Put the popular architectures first, and call them something
meaningful, ie:

[x86 32-bit] [x86 64-bit] [PowerPC]

The exact names are debatable of course, but expecting people to deduce
that 'amd64' is the right link to click on for their shiny new Intel
Xeon system clearly isn't working.

Alpha CD/DVD builds disabled

The daily and weekly builds for alpha haven't been working for quite a
while, and it's not expected to release with squeeze. Hence I've
turned off those builds now.

I disagree with it being a bug in the package; if the data needs to be
so big because of quality of textures or number of levels or whatever,
that's just how the world is.

It's not like it's a bug in linux-image-2.6.31-1-amd64 that it doesn't
fit on a 16MB USB stick, which is a similar case albeit with a scale
difference.

Well, you see, my current computer (Lenovo x200s) does not have an
optical drive at all. I had to install Debian using an usb stick. It
does have a fast enough CPU and graphics card to play nexuiz though,
mind you.

My point is that the fact that our packages are showing the age of the
media we still want to support should not be a bug.

are probably not able to play nexuiz anyway as it needs a pretty fastCPU and
graphics card to be fun :)

I thought this was why we had dpkg-split, so not exactly the same
problem.

Or supporting dpkg-split for this case too? But probably not worth the
