Debian mipsel laptopWhile we attended the Taiwan Debian MiniConf[1], we bought the
g-netbook[2] model No. G7LA-AB. I used google to search about the g-netbook and it seems very similar to the trendtac[3][4]. The trendtac is a Debian mipsel laptop. Does someone have more information about the g-netbook? Or the trendtac for that matter? Very similar hardware is sold under various names (see "AlsoKnownAs"). You could also contact the mailing list [2]. A very user oriented page is [3]. Re: Debian mipsel laptopAny initial thoughts on your new mipsel laptop? Is there any software
not available for mipsel that you need. Flash? -Chris 2009/10/1 Aníbal Monsalve Salazar <anibal@...>: > While we attended the Taiwan Debian MiniConf[1], we bought the > g-netbook[2] model No. G7LA-AB. > > I used google to search about the g-netbook and it seems very similar to > the trendtac[3][4]. Re: Debian mipsel laptopLook up "Alpha-400" on Wikipedia and follow the bazillions of links from there. Does yours have the 2.6 or the 2.4 kernel?
I got the Belco version, added a 16GB SD in the card slot, and have been happy using it as a mini-hacktop that does everything and draws almost no power doing it. If you have the 2.4 kernel, you will likely find that Etch (old stable) binaries mostly work with the Ingenic userland already installed although you have to manually rip debs as it is not really debian based. For the 2.6 kernel, you'll likely need one of the newer branches. Most of the 2.6 kernel user lands seem to actually be Debian derived and apt-get may just work for you once you get to a root shell. It's not a screamer, but I actually get useful stuff done with it. Enjoy your new toy! -S- --- On Thu, 10/1/09, Chris Thomas <sruchris@...> wrote: > From: Chris Thomas <sruchris@...> > Subject: Re: Debian mipsel laptop > To: debian-mips@... > Date: Thursday, October 1, 2009, 5:26 AM > Any initial thoughts on your new > mipsel laptop? We are in contact with someone from the company, so there is a positive atmosphere so far regarding the chances of them providing sources for their (assumed) changes to Linux and surrounding FLOSS tools, and help from them providing us other specs and documentation to start hacking on the device. But nothing concrete so far... - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist & Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private |

Re: Debian mipsel laptopOne of the holes that had not been closed in the other firmware images was the "file" option on firefox.
See if you can use a URL like "file:///" to at least start looking around. Also try formatting a USB stick as ext2 or ext3 and see if the unit will auto mount it. That may be another path to some nastiness with symlinks, etc. May let you edit the inittab file or something with the on board editor to get a root shell. -S- --- On Fri, 10/2/09, Jonas Smedegaard <dr@...> wrote: > From: Jonas Smedegaard <dr@...> > Subject: Re: Debian mipsel laptop > To: "Chris Thomas" <sruchris@...> > Cc: debian-mips@..., "Hector Oron" <hector.oron@...>, "Andrew Lee" <ajqlee@...> > Date: Friday, October 2, 2009, 5:55 AM > On Thu, Oct 01, 2009 at 08:26:00AM > -0400, Chris Thomas wrote: > > Any initial thoughts on your new mipsel laptop?
