Desktop-wide input language infoGreetings,
I'm writing to this list at the request of Jim Gettys, currently at OLPC. *nix desktops currently have a big problem propagating language state info. This impacts both spellchecking and even correct text rendering. The problem, and the solution Jim proposed, are detailed there: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Fonts/Dev/LanguageAwarenessProblem (I couldn't post a plain-text version of this page to the list, something is eating the message on the way.) Please implement Jim's solution, or any better one you can think of. Regards, -- Nicolas Mailhot _______________________________________________ wm-spec-list mailing list wm-spec-list@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/wm-spec-list |

Re: Desktop-wide input language infoI think this would be more appropriate on the xdg mailing list.

But I'll copy xdg list anyway. > On 10/6/07, Nicolas Mailhot <nicolas.mailhot@...> wrote: >> Greetings, >> >> I'm writing to this list at the request of Jim Gettys, currently at >> OLPC. *nix desktops currently have a big problem propagating language >> state info. But I'll copy xdg list anyway. It looks like xdg list is already deep in a discussion of this exact stuff anyway (though with DBus rather than X as the communication medium, which seems plausible): http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2007-October/thread.html -- Nathaniel -- Damn the Solar System. Bad light; planets too distant; pestered with comets; feeble contrivance; could make a better one myself. -- Lord Jeffrey _______________________________________________ wm-spec-list mailing list wm-spec-list@... http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/wm-spec-list |
